just payed for an ebay item and found that the guy had put the wrong email into his ebay account.

It seems that paypal will take your money even if the account you nominate it to doesn't exist?

i cancelled they payment - now apparently it might take up to 30 days for the funds to re appear,

their help staff must hate having to lie and mislead people all day long, you really have to pin em down before they start telling the truth...

which seems to be this:

a cancelled payment is sent back to the users account 'immediately' according to paypal..... but it seems unlikely that a bank could take 30 days to credit an account with funds they received immediately??

there is no automated system which checks to see if an account exists or is valid before a payment is sent to it. - ie: a bank transfer wont work if the account name is wrong or the acn number doesn't line up...

i wonder how ethical / legal all this is...? what do you we think forum lawyers

not to big a deal...$300 odd dollars, just annoying..... i need the item already

Paypal are a deceitful bunch. Not intentionally, but their convoluted policies and processes are well hidden unless you really get into it. Customer service is appalling; I lodged the same complaint three times before someone actually responded addressing the problems rather than copying and pasting policy wording. A frustrating service and I avoid them where I can, though it's hard when you are forced to 'accept' them as a payment method on listings. Then again, some people speak highly of the service. It is convenient, but not for my money.

Nothing to do with your issue, however I share your frustration!

cheers
