Did I read at some time that someone went to a recent launch pf PT8 ?

I'm here - just been busy..
It wasnt a launch - it was just a pre-launch preview at a function..
Looks really nice - super MIDI function compared to what it was in earlier versions.. GUI is nice too (looks a little Logic tho)
Nice multi-playlist function where all lanes are visible and lots more..
Too many changes to list here - check the Digi site is your best bet..

Saw some screenshots for the first time yesterday..... looks like they are copying Logic :)

Well that seems logical.

The screen shots don't do it justice - it isn't a copy of the Logic GUI ( I guess I shouldnt really say that as it's misleading - however, I have only seen Logic in the flesh once (at nICs) and it was my first impression when I saw the new Tools), but the colours are fully customisable so you 'could' make it look more like a Logic GUI if required (why would you tho!)
However, it really is just a fresh face for Tools, which is a nice change

hmmm. my systems running strong, and i just don't think i need to go beyond 7.4 right now.
once digi enabled multiprocessors i was fine.

and i try not to go beyond 16 tracks, so the track count doesn't matter to me.

I'm satisfied with 7.4 but then I hardly use PT much these days, having too much fun with Logic Studio 8.

it was released yesterday!! now hopefully UA releases the RTAS upgrade for the new UAD2 Quad card we have and it will
be rockin!!

Seems to be out in USA, they have had it a few days now.

Ya think 48 will be enough for you? I don't. :)

If you get the MPTK2, it expands to 128 tracks.
Maybe that will be enought for JK's next album!! ;-)

I dunno, heh, maybe 128 will do him. I think he's still recovering from this one though. :)

Sounds killer after Rick's mastering job, he really brought out the best in it and put the icing on the cake. I can't stop listening to a few of the tracks, they're still stuck in my head even though I've heard them soooooooooo many times. Keen to get a finished copy with artwork, hint hint, but all in good time.

Now back to that protools 8 thingy. Farout I'll probably have to get a 003 next year. C'mon dididesign bring out a new hd system so I can get an older 1 for $500. :)

128 tracks at 96K + plugins, without sounding like ass, with a very short playback buffer....

that willl be something i care about , call me whan someone comes up with that :P


oh, and yeah, it still probably wouldnt be enough tracks.

on a HD3 system, i had to make stems at every 40 tracks or so...so, i doubt the 003 will actually be solving problems, pluss, i still bet money that when u start using their extended track counts, you will get some marvellous,

Yeah I think you're right Jamil, cubase 4 could be the go.

To run PT8 Le with all that new track count you need a $6 computer. Just get Logic Studio, I can't believe how good it is and so cheap.

Sorry, my bad - PT LE is only expandable to 64 tracks with MPTK2.. 128 tracks with the Complete Production Toolkit

Thanks, and thanks. Yeah really happy to get my fro (and my dog) in AT. I thought it read really well and it was a good topic to cover as live recording is very much happening in Melbourne as is in other states I'm sure. I hope we can capitalize on the article and get bigger shows etc. Would be nice. Anyway Pro-tools 8 here I come.

chris lord-alge still records at 44.1

Mark Rochelle said on here a long time ago why he thought 44.1 was better... something along the lines of too much number crunching, when doing a sample rate conversion I dont know if he still feels that way,
