Remote power setup

I'm off to the pacific islands to do some remote recording of indigenous musicians. Looking at travelling with Macbook Pro Duo, MH2282 and external hard drive, mics etc. (I want to travel light) There is a generator on site, so I can recharge and edit with mains power, but will need to record long sessions ( several hours perhaps) with generator off. What would you suggest for portable silent power? 12V battery with inverter? UPS battery power? I dont want to rely upon bus power from the mac.

Cheers in advance.

ohh, just need to preface that with the fact that i cant vouch for this systems reliability, so, i suggest u look at several products in this category from several manufacturers.

Check out reviews and such...just somre advice, oh, and make sure u do a test run :)

if your going to a french colony to record and bring your toys ( which i have done )
make sure you have receipts for everything you have with you to prove you own it and somekind of proof of what you do , or you will have a very long wait in customs trying to explain what you have why you have it and prove it is not going to be sold on the black market .

i spent a long night in new calendonia while custums tried to work out what the hell a 1073 was and what it might fetch on the local black market

the guy that got me out of custums then went to a very shady dockland area at 1 am and picked up a pallet of coca cola for me to drink DIRECTLY FROM BLACK MARKETEERS !
i was shitting myself !

Now you're just making me nervous guys.
Thanks Jamil for your suggestion, very cool, and appealing coz it's light. I think I may go with a rechargeable car battery since I can use a generator occasionally, but still pondering.
Interestingly, flew out of Hanoi recently, and having entered the departure lounge I was escorted back to check-in to open my (checked-in) bag and explain the use of a peculiar electronic object - an apple macbook pro power supply.

Cheers
