Hi Everyone,

Does anyone have a contact for some one in the Sydney area that can fix and service Roland RE 301 tape echo's. Or just tape echo's.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi all, Just a quick question as a newbie, ( i believe that's the term ) Ive had my old RE-201 for more years than i care to remember but have finally ran out of my storage of tapes. I realise that you cant get these anymore & that years a go a mate of mine would make his own tapes up. I just cant remember (like a lot of things lately) whether it was 4 track or 2 track tape he used.
Any idea ?

Music swap shop here in melbourne sells them already made up for $20

Can't beat that.

I have found that tapes such as Ampex 456 and such work very poorly in these units, there are several sites on the net that sell new tapes that use a more suitable tape stock. There is even one in NZ:

I haven't tried their tapes yet to give you a review though.

I actually thought roland still had these tapes in stock? I'm probably wrong tho.

I also was under the impression that the tape was silicon impregnated and hence, sort of self lubricating to save on head wear etc. (so not your off the shelf type of tape)

Futureman is right in that the original tapes had a coating as i remember that the "made -up"Tapes didn't last that long. I sent an email to Roland some time ago and was assured that they didn't make them anymore and they bluntly suggested that their newer digital items "made after 1980" would probably serve me better.. Good on em..
Thirteen , thanks for the link. Will be checking that out soon. i have 6 reels of old ampex 1/4" tape and yes is is very poor indeed. Mind you the old girl is getting a little noisy (as old girls do )

$20 - $30 per tape from Creation Tapes seems reasonable..
