Just wondering if anyone uses this device, or has any kind of opinion on it whatsoever..?

I've been eyeing it off as well. I reckon the Duende mini with an apogee duet and macbook would make a nice little setup. No one can tell me if the Duet and Duende will work daisy-chained via firewire though.

...I wouldn't mind seeing some other plugins too. Reverbs would be nice. Probably the biggest advantage of the UAD series now is how much ground the available plugins cover.

I have been thinking of it too.... the only way to get the desk mic comp on the new macs now is with the duende or duet.

I doubt you'll ever see reverbs and the like in Duende given that SSL have never made reverbs.... it's designed to be an emulation of the SSL console.

My take on that is if reverb options would help them gain market share ( and IMHO it would) then we will see reverb with the Duende soon enough.

I hav'nt used duende myself but........ I have taken part in comparisons on GS between my Smart C2, Duende comp and waves ssl.

Duende comp sounded way better.

The eq' between waves and duende, duende heaps better.

Duende is way smoother and more natural sounding in my opinion.

Doesn't Duende have like over 2000 sample delay?
I think the Mellowmuse ATA latency plug-in will finally fix that up with 10 plug-in on PT8 so now it looks like Duende could be a real contender.
Please someone clarify the latency on this thing as I personally have not used one.

I agree it may increase their market share but in the 30 years or so SSL has been around they have never departed from consoles or things directly related to them... in the case of the Duende, an emulation of their consoles. Smart people know what they're dumb at and SSL know their strengths.

The channel strip is basically the same as they use in the C200 console. Anyway still sounds better than the waves ones in my opinion.

yeah, its true. But SSL have been making digital consoles and they also recently acquired Sydec/Soundscape.

i also saw on sweetwater that there is a duende pci express card now... that would really cut down on shipping from the states..
