NS10 twweter blown :(

Postby SNJ Studio » Thu Jan 29, 2009 12:41 pm

Hi Rick / Forum,

Don't marry the singer? Well don't lend them studio gear either.

Left a vocal recording rig setup at a singers house, as they "needed their own time and space to get the vibe"... this has turned into them doing no takes, and using my NS10's as their party speakers.

Drove them with a crappy consumer chinese amp, waaaaay overpowered.

Blown tweeter. Immediately packed up all my gear from the house and suggested singer use another facility. Not that they even have lyrics written yet. And they cry about not being signed.

OK enough whinging - is there any recourse for me to get my tweeter replaced and match the other side? Thanks for any advice.

Someone was selling some NS10's from memory with some spare tweeters..
Do a quick search in the FS section.. they might offload the spare speakers for you..

I think it was Otto who had them - he may not have listed in the FS section (I think I PM'd him about them actually as it came up in a thread)..
You can try and PM him and see if he still has them..

Sometimes the break happens right at the solder joint of the tweeter and you can re-solder it. Worth a look, mind you they may have melted the voice coil into a blob too....

They appear to be pretty widely available in the US but I think Yamaha policy forbids US sellers to ship here. If this is the case you might have to shop around a bit I guess.
