A mate of mine's studio was robbed this morning in Blackburn VIC. Below are the details - please contact us if you hear or see anything of the gear!

Things are yet again a struggle down here at Oaklands, I got into the studio this morning and the place had been robbed, it seemed like a calculated attack as they only took the good mics and preamps.

Can you please help me out by putting out the word through the industry about what was stolen (see list below) and hopefully we can catch the ones resposible.

Mics

1 x Neumann U67
2 x AKG C414B-ULS
2 x Studio Projects C4
2 x Sennheiser MD421
2 x Shure SM57
1 x AKG D112

Preamps

1 x Focusrite ISA220
1 x Amek DMCL
1 x Avalon 737SP

Video Camera

1 x Panasonic AG-DVX100 Broadcast 3CCD Camera

A few sets of headphones, mounts, ipod, mbox, etc

That would be hard to take. Sorry to hear about this and will keep an eye out and my ear to the ground. Let's see if we can get this gear back to the owner.
There was a happy ending story of stolen gear last year. Ross Hannoford had his van stolen with a lot of his gear in it, guitars and amps mostly. Any way a ew months later the van was discovered in some back street elsewhere in Melbourne with the gear still in it. Apparently some idiots had stole it for a joy ride and simply left it parked when they had finished their drive. So all was good and Ross got the gear and van back.

Man, that sucks. I hope he gets his stuff back. I recon, being such a small industry in Aus that they will turn up somewhere.

with what has been stolen, I would say a freelance engineer has gotten the stuff for himself, or is selling it overseas. take a look at all the engineers that have been in the place, I dont know how any of that can be passed on for a price with out anyone in oz knowing. and i dont know how someone can think they can take it and not get caught.

What I would give for just 30 seconds alone with the theiving bastards.

on another note I didnt hear ross hanaford got his stuff back, thats awesome.

unfortunatley I just heard back from my mate and his insurance lapsed a few weeks ago as he has been struggling to pay for the build of his new place.

I've offered him a lend of anything he needs if it's available for any sessions he has coming up and also cost price replacements on any new gear but hopefully it will turn up!

So everyone else make sure your insurance is up to date!!! we've also got closed circuit cameras through our new place and alarms that call us if they are tripped..

This is terrible.. Oaklands is always my first stop for rental gear. I've used his Wagner and his U67s and they're awesome. I hope he is able to get them back.

Sounds very calculted by someone who knew what gear was where. This is the second incident this week I've heard of people being robbed after having let their insurance lapse (other was a friend in the US). I hope it shows up somewhere and one of us finds the bastard.

How many U47 W were made? Would be a very difficult thing to conceal unless it never did any recording again.

I asked Jarrad to send me a msg to post here on his behalf - here it is..

"Thanks guys for the support, it is a terrible thing that has happened here and the worst part about it is the person that did it has to be someone that has used my studio before, they knew exactly where to go and what to take, they also knew how to beat the security measures I had in place which is very troubling.

I have someone investigating the case at the moment but so far we haven't turned up anything, we have a few leads to follow and will hopefully have some news in the coming days, I have also upgraded the security here so this will never happen again, every door is double deadlocked and we have a camera monitoring system that sees everything.

It's a shame this had to happen but thankfully they didn't steal everything I own, I can still run my business, I still have a solid mic collection, none of my vintage ribbon mics were stolen thankfully and they left a U67, U87, TLM170 and C12 behind, I am replacing the gear that was stolen, I will have a U47 again in a couple of weeks and over time I will replace the rest of the kit.

Anyway, keep your eyes out for the gear, as you say if they try to sell it here in Oz they won't get far, my feeling is that it is someone that stole it for their own use, they will hide it away in a home studio and use it to make their own records, I just hope that one day someone stumbles in there and catches them out.
