Daptones studio robbed, no insurance
Some of you may have heard about Daptone Studios in Brooklyn NY being robbed recently. If you don't know of it it's where Amy Winehouses album was recorded, and is (or was) a really nice all analog setup with a lot of great vintage gear and instruments.
The incredible thing (at least to me) is that they were unisured at the time. They were looking for a new policy and were talking to several brokers.
I just wanted to say I'm amazed a place with this much high end gear did not have some sort of interim cover, paricularly in the neighbourhood it's in.
There's a good reminder there that insurance is something far too many of us don't bother with, or keep on top of. Sure it's not a piece of sexy gear you can show your friends, but if you do this for a living or have a good gear collection make sure it is covered.
Sure it may never happen to you, but without insurance have a think about exactly what postion you'd be in if it did.
PS I don't sell insurance, I'm just amazed at how many places have been done over recently that don't have it. I also think these sort of break ins are going to become more common as people start running out of money.
