Dynamic EQ a la dolby A in a plugin?

Please slap me with a wet fish for asking this, but has anyone come across any sort of dynamic eq plugin that does what the Dolby A does when you use the encode side only? Or does anyone have a pair of 361's with A type cards they want to get rid of? I only ever seem to come across units with the SR cards in them (like the pair on evilbay atm).

Is the dolby 365 the same sort of thing? I know a guy who's got one and would sell it i'm sure.

hmmmm I've got a bunch of dolby A cards somewhere and always wondering about racking them into a one shot compressor.....

Hey Matt, I've only ever used a 361 with A cards for what I'm talking about. The only 365 I've seen had CAT22 cards, which I think is a frequency dependant gate? Or only gates certain frequencies? I know some of the older Dolby units can be modded to only compress in certain bands, but the thing I'm after with the A type is where you only go through the encode side and as things get quiter they get brighter and darker as they get louder. I'll do some googling and see if the 365 is similar. Anyone out there know?

Hi Andy, are you thinking about the effect you can create eg. with backing vocals or for multiband archival purposes?
I've used Dolby A noise reduction to give a lovely glassy sound to a BV group (rich dark high end) used as a sidechain to the BV group.
This could be the wet fish slapping me?
Anyone?

Ben, yeah that's the sort of thing, mult a vocal with a send to it, mix back in. Also good inserted straight over stuff, acoustics, piano. The slap me thing is because I'm always sayin hardware is better, but I'd love to find a plug that can do it, but I doubt I will. I'm getting sick of patchcords.

I've only seen the single units. Now stupid question I know, but it's basically just 2 independent mono units housed in one chassis right? No linking of the tracking or anything..so you can use each channel on seperate mono sources at the same time. Dual Mono...
Stupid question I know but I had to ask.

You beat me to it Otto, the DQ1 will definately do what you want, though it is fiddly and as with most plugs can get harsh but it does do it well. They have a comp which works similarly CQ1 I believe.
Orrrrrr how about a CLM Dynamics Expounder, I've heard they are very good units.
