I saw the opening show on Wednesday night, really enjoyable night. Those Puffersphere projection balls were something, were'nt they? I liked the way they retracted into those big 'socks' when they were not being used ... oh, and the music was great too. Still not a fan of the acoustics in the Acer Arena though, just boom city in the low end there, and Chris Martin's lead vocals were distorting.... hopefully they managed to fine tune the sound a bit over following nights. Man, that guy is just a spring of energy - I felt knackered just watching him jump and fall around...

I saw them on the last tour at the Sydney Ent. Cent. It was a very, very good show.

Last night was great.. Those balls were super - loved the way they used them to project images throughout the show as well.
The band were great.. lots of energy from all the band, but Chris Martin was manic!!
Acer Arena isnt the greatest of venues I agree, but there's not a lot of choice of decent venues..
Horden Pav is probably the best place to see a band. Saw Cold Chisel Ringside there and it was good..
Metro is crap and Ent Cent not much better than Acer..
Still, acoustics aside, it was a great show..

Their 'Live 2003' DVD was shot at the Hordern.

Acer sux, I'll never pay to see a show there again, I like the ent centre if you can get down the front and there's someone who knows what they are doing mixwise it can sound fantastic, Hordern sounds pretty good usually, saw G3 there a while back it sounded ok, Vai was awesome as always though.

I really liked Selinas/Coogee bay, usually always been happy there but............. I don't think it would be big enough for Coldplay. :) Anthrax was great there, so was Eric Johnson, though he went pale halfway through the set and went back stage for a chunder I think, must have drank some Sydney water, though he returned to finish his set.

Another thing that shits me with bands these days is they only want to do 1 gig per city, what about the days when Dire Straits played the ent cent about 25 nights in a row. Ummmmmm a mate of mine went to all of them, no crap! But yeah stuffing as many people as possible into a shite venue does'nt do much for me.

Sounded like a good night anyway.

I would rather play smaller, better sounding rooms.
Unfortunately, these level of tours can last 6 months to a year as it is, so swapping a couple of shows per city for a week or more would see a band out on the road for an eternity.
Not great for the personal life.

I saw Roger Waters at Acer two years ago and the sound was pristine - like listening to a really loud CD. Had good seats though...

Have you noticed how many shows Pink is performing in Australia ..

I worked on the TV ads for her last tour. We were supposed to do 8 ads I think for the various shows for Aus/NZ and it ended up being about 35 or so all up. She's a license to print money that's for sure. The promoter would have made a killing.

Totally understandable Chris, would be hard for sure. Still though I think a few extra shows at better venues would be great for the audience but yeah band members need a social life also.

Have you seen how much tickets are! Went to her last Canberra show (Missus is a fan) and quite enjoyed it. No F@#$ing way am I paying $180 to go again...

Yeah, it's pretty much a blatant rip-off of consumers at that price.
P!NK knows that alot of tweens and teens are her fans and they are a major cash resourse for her.. she's raking it in really..
Its a shame to see parents paying $180 for a ticket so their kids can see her shows....
I saw Dire Straits for $40 back in the early 80's.. and Coldplay was $140..

True, but I bet back at the Dire Straits show that a tub of water and an esky full of dry ice was about as much 'production' as they had.

I'm happy to pay a premium for a show that melts my face off. I paid $100 to see Keith Urban recently and it was worth every cent because I came away from the gig and was really excited about playing guitar again (plus I got to see two of my musical heroes playing in his band.) I saw U2 at all 3 Sydney shows from right in the Elipse and was floating for weeks after and Coldplay and Prince were just awesome too. Asides from the tix being tax deductible for all of us here it's an incredible re-charge to see the best of the best up close.

I won't be going to see Pink but she puts on one hell of a show.

DS was at the Ent Cent and it was the Brothers in Arms tour - stageshow was ok, but I dont remember much about it.
I saw U2 on the first tour of Oz (UABRS tour) and they were unreal.. I also saaw them in Utah in 1996 when I was there for a conference - they were still awesome.
The most outstanding show I've seen was Toto at Selinas in 1992 - I walked out of there 10 feet off the ground - THE best musicianship I've seen in a long time (although its pretty dated now) - saw them at the last 2 Metro gigs they did and was a bit lack-lustre about it, but it was still good - Lukather is probably my fav guitarist (being one myself)..
Jaff Wayne's War of the Worlds was spectacular also - the visuals and the music.. incredible show.

i think you'll find that Pink would have no idea what the ticket prices were (before the tour at least) and would have very little say in it even if she did.

amanda palmer was quite upset and genuinely apologetic when she got to australia on her recent tour and found out that her shows were $50!

I think they played Sydney for so long because the band loved being here. It was the end of a long tour and there was no problem extending the dates as long as the promoter could sell tickets.
I don't think the band knows what the ticket prices are.
They are handled by management and local promoters.
