I dunno about the translation, but the hands in those photos don't look Taiwanese to me.

come on dont be racist aussies
just assume they are too much money for an untestable ebay sale and live and let live.
ive gotten my best ebay deals from non english speaking countries where everything was a risk , and before digital cameras where the norm taiwan was a goldmine of old gear.
this is just too much money to risk on microphones that you have to assume dont work no matter how they type the description english or chinglish.
there were lots of government broadcast studios in taiwan full of neumanns and neves... err well there were once :)

Hey I wasn't being racist, just implying that I think the pics have been 'borrowed' from somewhere else. We all know that can happen sometimes. ;)

now if i tell you every thing i know , what stories will i have left to tell my kids ..?
but there was a 12chn neve melbourne deal done at the same time last month that now sits in one of my clients studios in melbourne :) (ie did not get shipped to the USA )
i keep hearing that there are no "rare finds" left anymore , and seem to keep finding em or hear about others that do
i guess the point to find old gear MUCH cheaper then retail you have to not look for guarantees, be prepared to run into some "dodgys" , take a punt from time to time and know quite clearly what something is worth , on each of the levels , aquistion , running cost of the deal , wholesale through to retail.
its no fun to do if your a "worrier", leave it to somebody that enjoys the chase
all that great stuff you see at mixmasters or vintage king probably sat in a shed for a long time before it gets trotted out by those guys for sale, and those guys are the retailers .
(not always the " treasure hunters " you might think they are )
and there are still bargains to be had on evil bay , i got a pultec last year that was listed wrong in an antique shop from in buttsville USA every thing about it looked dodgy , but when i won it (no other bidders)
the dealer was really surprised that i wanted to fed ex it to all the way to australia , because" its heavy and it will cost more then you paid for it."
as for the dodgy mikes at the opening post , they are nearly at a retail price , so who cares whether its a scam or not
at those prices its no bargain .

I had a similar thing a while back with some specialised control gear for large LED video screens. List price in Australia: $47,000.
Ebay seller who had no idea what it was? $400, in a roadcase.
You just have to keep looking.

Rick,
I will keep the API gear and have Neve as well...
I've heard the BAE 1073 quite a few times - it is an awesome sounding pre..
However, I cant make a comparison of the Neve v's BAE pre..
Its all about colour though.. ;-)

BAE is close enough if you dont need a brand to feel good about what you hear .
i suggest you stop dreaming about the neve eq circuit and just get into the pres , its much cheaper an its where the (in your face, larger then life ) sound comes from anyways

well, i'm not really dreaming of them, but I certainly would ike to get something Neveish (BAE would suffice very nicely) - I'm not too fussy, but my bank account and partner is!!
it will come.. someday.

We all seem to have that nagging problem with bank accounts and more importantly partners.
How does the JLM NV500 sound against things Neveish?

Serious question Rick - where do you start looking for Neve (and other) treasure? How much of a war chest do you need to build up and how much do you have to be prepared to lose?

I think those are closely-guarded secrets..
Everyone searches ebay, but there are obviously 'secret' places to find old vintage gear..
Gotta be in the know/circle of trust I suspect..

36 kg will do but it has to make it into the boat :)
or a solution to my two 18" aura speaker subs problem do i drive them with the 800w per side kt88 tube amps we started with but i cannot afford even though they have the right dampening or it is the 1800w per class d amps i can probably afford but cant find one that works just right yet , is it a crossover freq thing or is it the speed of the amps ? the wave forms are so long that you need speed, but its the dampening thats critical, ie stopping the cone , but who makes the right one , does it have a matched stepped input pot/switch for each amp
is that just a pad thing or part of the gain circuit ?
how am i going to pay the phone bill this week , got any idea what that noise is ? what time is it ?
is that a possum in the roof again ? i wonder if i can find the guy again with those 70's tube macs to try out , i wonder if 350 w per side will do it i heard the preamp side of themwas solid state , does that matter ......
what do i do when we move studios and the room resonance changes .... ?

to answer the question about where you look for neves
you start in the morning , you remember every word ever spoken for 67 words either side of the word neve
and you scheme well into the night .
war chest..?
i have bought and sold 10 times the gear that i currently own and that is why i know so much about this stuff , its like gambling , you never hear about the losses.
i have spent my lifes wages buying my job.
i am sure i could have bought something better if i was more inclined to take advice rather then always dishing it out :)

Am I the only heretic to believe there is more to life than Neveitis? Neumannitis? Pultecitis? SSLitis?
These are all good tools I would love to own, but we are actually fortunate in having an industry where good tools abound - probably more so than in many other professions where, to be honest, there is usually the choice of just one manufacturer, or two if you are lucky. Enjoy the fact that we are so spoilt, rather than lamenting the lost Neve. You can always photoshop up a couple of "Neave" (to avoid copyright infringement) logos to stick on your gear if the client insists on you having it.

I'm not an engineer, but there's a few things I like as much as Neve - and when I say Neve there are only a few that are really classic anyway.....
The 70's Helios and Cadac sound AMAZING. I would probably prefer both to neve, although parts and repair are a problem, especially with Cadac.
Of course EMI, but that's a step up in price again from Neve.
Some of the early Calrec modules are supposed to be Neve-ish, likewise the Audix BBC stuff.
