Hey Guys,

Apple released new Macbook Pro's yesterday. Amongst other things, the new 15" Pro's no longer include Express Card slots - so no eSata, no Apogee Symphony, etc etc.

We've got a few of the older model sitting here, going pretty cheap. Complete with Express Card slots :-)
The were $3999.00 on Monday...

Official pricing for the superseded model is $3199.00. If anyone wants one you can have it for $3145.00. Specs are: MacBook Pro 15" 2.66GHZ - 4G Ram/ 320GB HDD/ Super Drive/ Airport/ Bluetooth/ Express Card 34

Warranty, Tax Invoice will be provided, Machines are unopened.

And here i am just setting up to get the RME maddi face to record out of the Digico consoles live. I currently own just superseded mac book pro but where does that leave the portable recording options for the future regarding interfacing MADI with the macbook?

17 inch only.

Firewire easily has the bandwidth as MADI is (essentially) FDDI which is 100Mbit in each direction, you'd probably want FW800, but given an otherwise lightly loaded bus there's no real problem with that amount of data.

Of course until somebody (probably RME or SSL) actually launches that it's all theoretical.

But can you run a firewire cable 100 meters?

Maybe if you buy 10 of those 10 meter ones with the repeaters on em.

There is a standard for optical firewire and convertors are available, but MADI optical is probably safer.

The Bandwidth of Firewire is fine, especially Firewire 800.

The Killer is the latency, Firewire has a much higher latency than possible via Express Card.
