I've had a Rhodes MK1 suitcase for years. I bought it from a friend of mine, a legendary bass player named Jeremy Allsop when he had nowhere to store it. I've never used the effects loop on it. I've also had an Electroharmonix Small Stone (the old one) for years.
Today I put it in the effects loop on the Rhodes. I'm now several hours behind because I've sat around all day playing DJ Shadow and Billy Joel tunes.
I actually spent hours without thinking about recording gear or bottom end, just being 'lost in the music'. I haven't done that sort of thing for ages cause I'm too busy trying to rule the world. It sounds awesome, and there isn't a Neve involved anywhere.
This post has no point, other than it's fun to stop everything and just play. I'd almost forgotten how much fun...

DJ Shadow and Billy Joel - quite a contrast there.

Love vintage phasers. On the recent Dan tour Donald Fagen had an original MXR Phase 90 permanently strapped to the Rhodes.
I have a Schulte Compact Phasing myself.
Have you seen the price Mixmasters are selling a Rhodes for?!?

Have you seen the prices Mixmasters are selling anything for? (Kidding, I know they service everything) I have seen some scary prices being discussed on fenderrhodes.com. I got mine at a very good price althought I wouldn't mind one of the silver sparkle tops. An 88 would give me that little extra on the low end I'd like now and then.
I actually have the Smallstone from my guitar rig. I might start looking for a few others now. I'm about to start a very slow refurb of my suitcase. Grommets felts dampers all need relplacing and the top end hammers so I might as well do the whole set while I'm there. Interestingly, I've had the E above middle C be very sluggish since I got it. I opened it all up and pulled the harp out to look at the felts and there was a dirty big loose bolt sitting under the hammer way at the back. Looks like it's off a car wheel.
Our young assistant just came in and made me play the theme from Dougie Howser MD....

I've got a Wurli, and the sound of it through my univibe clone (Neovibe) is a killer.. very subtle, but incredibly cool.

I'd kill for a Mutron bi-phase tho...

Playing rocks.. getting lost in the moment.

I'd love a Wurli. One of my mentors had one. The one on the legs. Or are they all like that? Thing I think is cool about the suitcase is that you have the speakers on the player's side blasting at you so you feel the music. I wonder if the bottom end cooks ya nads a little bit?

Would prefer a Mu tron though !

Wurli EP 200a was my first ever keyboard (thanx Dad:) and I've had 4 Rhodes and another Wurli since then.

Love live the Rhodes !

I've got a Dan DVD live from NYC and DF had the same thing - they are such a cool band..
I'm a big Dan fan..

that's pretty obscene... going rate is $2000-2200 AUD. mixmasters don't set the price of course, the seller does.

we pulled out the 73 at atlantis on the weekend... keyboardist didn't understand why we were getting him to come in to redo the perfectly ok rhodes part that he had done on his perfectly good nord stage. after a few takes he just had that look about him... like, oh yeah, i get it. sounded great too of course (especially in the hands of a great player).

we were also using the space echo a lot (on guitar), which got us talking about how important it is to be inspired (like andy was when he was playing with his fender)... i've just been mucking around with an analog delay pedal (never used delays much with guitar before, weird i know), and have been totally drawn into that world of just exploring sound, and interacting with the instrument. we just don't do that enough.

i also got to thinking... the fender rhodes really is a very simple thing... basic mechanics plus passive electronics... if we can spend so much time, effort and money designing/building/selling neve clones then why hasn't someone built a rhodes or a wurli clone?

Couldn't agree more.
I'm a drummer but I have lot's of old FX in my studio.
Space echo, Maestro Guitar Synthesizer, MXR auto-phasers etc, etc..
I was working with an old friend who used to be a died in the wool hardware user, but he kept pulling up these plug in simulators on his laptop to put his guitar through. I kept offering the real thing but he felt the plug-ins were better - chiefly more options I think.
The software didn't have the same sound and importantly, didn't have the same human - machine interaction you so rightly talk about.
