Who's using 1 and what's the build quality like?

1 thing I know is they are bloody expensive.

From memory, you can get the specks from the internet and if your handy enough, build one yourself for a fraction of the price.

i dont have one because i am way too diy for that kinda stuff :)
but i like the sterling consoles stuff much better
the top of the range one ( with the bubiga wood sides and granite armrest is amazing)
i think they are (sterling) the way to go regardless of price and i am seriously tempting myself everytime i mine the sterling console website.

Hi there,

There is an Argosy console up here (not mine) that used to hold a
Mackie D8b thing, in storage with a guy I know.

I'd love it myself.... but it doesn't fit a Pro Control and 3 extra fader packs ;-)

I have plans for an awesome looking desk which I got from a guy off GS - he emailed me the plans and some pics.
PM me your email addy and I'll post them thru to you.

i regularly use 3 of them

one with a control 24
one with an 02R
and one with a DM2000

They look really nice, great access to racked gear

to be honest i think they are slightly limited
it feels like alot of space is wasted, meaning more rack spaces could be there with a better design

a few build quality issues, ive seen a few strips of plastic coming off (just a glue issue really)
also they arent terribly stable, you can lean on it and it will move quite a bit, and a short application of pressure will make it wobble enough to make things fall off the top
never had any problems but

im not sure, but there must be better alternatives

Will have to check the Sterling ones out for sure, does'nt have to be argosy. Just looking for something at a reasonable price that is sturdy and does'nt resonate. A lot of the cheaper ones I've used have some nasty resonances at certain freqs, nearly always when the bass starts working nicely.

I think Peat answered my question though, if you can lean on it and it moves I reckon it's got every chance of having a nasty resonance.

I'm all for DIY but I'm not that good at woodworking, seriously not good at it. But I guess I do have mates that are cabinet makers, so for something built from scratch an extra grand or 2 would be fine.

Thanks Nymo, though I'll need one with lots of rack space. This is the one I was thinking of, would be perfect, as I need more rack space I can just add axtra rack enclosures at the sides. I've got a lot of modules to get racked.

Will probably be a couple of months before I need a desk, but really need to start looking around to work out costs.

I checked out the Sterling range and they have some great looking options, only slightly more expensive than the Argosy ones. They look much nicer too, the "Plan C" would be perfect, is there an Aussie distributor Rick? I think these are probably a better option. They look like they have much better ventilation underneath too, which is very important.

On some of the Stirling ones they have speaker mounts, and from the pics I've seen I often wonder how you would mix with your speaker so wide apart. You'd need a broom handle to move faders from the sweet spot. Perhaps they are adjustable?

True, though I'll be getting some nice speaker stands, I want the speakers totally detached from the desk.

I'll move the desk so I'm working in the sweet spot. Once my speakers are positioned in the best place in the room I won't move thier position unless I really have to.

Plan B desk could be good too, but I'll look more pro with a wrap around desk, heh.

maybe people would pay to come and sit on the couch and have me just "listen " to their music ?

Hmmmmm you need a robot, you can just sit and listen while your robot tweaks knobs, maybe sooner than we think.

ive got a robot , but he makes too much noise , i have to keep him in the machine room

Rick, you need to get into a virtual reality interface with your DAW. Just two gloves and some wires is all its takes (although the helmet screen thing is more immersive than just watching a large LCD. Stav's Smart consoles are all very good but the are still consoles.

That chair actually looks like a particular antique (can't remember the name) that is rather expensive. My mother in law has one. Most uncomfortable chair ever...

That setup looks more like a mixing setup given the speakers and some of the kit in the rack. I like that idea for mastering, and have a similar setup when clients want me to master a project. I do not market myself as a mastering engineer but several self funded clients of mine get me to master the projects we work on. I still prefer and recommend they go to a full time mastering house. I would myself get rid of the screen in front of the chair and use a lap top on the knees as its below ear level so not in the road of the direct signal from the speakers.

I'd get a sore neck with that setup. I need something to hunch over and lean on. Though yes there's nothing in the way of the sound.

Except the monitor.

Interesting to see what looks to an Orban 622 (light blue 2nd top right rack) possibly in the rack for mastering..

Yes the chair looks about as comfortable as sitting on an anorexic cow.

I'd have a Macbook Pro instead of the screen and you can always add an extra rolling rack to the side. ;)

I'm looking forward to the day when I can afford to fill even one of those racks with my gear needs/lusts.

That's why I bought an Avalon. :) All those German modules I bought are pretty quiet too.

4 channels of EQ for me is plenty (Orban and Auditronics)
Mic pres are the flavours I'm chasing now.. 2 to go then I'm done..

Niiiiiiice. Does the foot rest come up I wonder if so then that's perfect. Has almost a holiday type vibe to it.

I think my new room is going to look like the first pic though, actually probably bigger and cooler looking, so yeah maybe a bit better.
