Sorry to swear straight off, but was it only me that found the broadcast sound terrible? I tried it on 3 stereos, and 2 cars, but it all sounded wayyyy overcompressed, totally lacking in balls, just rubbish! So does JJJ (radio) broadcast from MP3 files, or was it my local transmitter acting up? thanks, Mick

Several songs I heard were particularly hammered, smashing pumpkins today was the worst off, dropped over 3dB I'd say when the band kicks in. I believe it was the radio comp as the release time was around 2 seconds.

it sounded to me like jjj have changed their processing somewhat .. lately I've noticed it sounds more dense in Sydney. I think each state is precessed separately, too. Why oh why does it have to be that way these days?

What's this 'Triple J' you speak of?

When the extra J got added it started to smell, but when it went national it just died a sad death of a thousand commercial cuts.

Hey hey hey, ease up. When you live in a small town where your only choice is triple J or two other local channels that only play pop and Jimmy Barnes, Triple J is very inviting. I thought it was a fairly decent countdown, bar numbers 1 and 2.

I see your point but when you look at Db J and see how GOOD it (JJJ) could of been it kind of makes me MORE angry.

I missed out completely on double J, even so I have noticed the downward slide to commercial radio even over the last 5 years. A bit silly as they make fun of it (comma fm skits?). Although I do enjoy most of their music. Has anyone listened to the grizzly bear album they featured a couple of weeks ago?

I must have something wrong with me, I never thought that "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was anything special musically, the lyrics are just whatever... good song and good performance, but I cannot understand what all the fuss is about.

George Massenburg played the original multitrack of Superstition at Integrate 09.
Man, the mistakes and timing were quite out, but it all fit together perfectly to make the song what it was..

And thereby hangs the eternal contradiction of the digital/software music age.
I've had my drumming hyper critically analyzed for timing errors by some well known producer/engineers over the years. They'll pull your drum sound apart and leave you a trembling wreck on the floor by the end of the session.
Then in the pub later they'll gush for an hour non stop about some amazing Motown or Stax recording when asked what their favourite recording is.
A Motown/Stax recording you know is all over the shop timingwise by todays grid standards, pitchy vocals (un-autotuned), recorded with on a couple of mics through a cheap mic/pre onto super noisy tape. A tinny guitar sound and a squeaky bass drum pedal to boot.
And they never seem to see the irony.
Superstition is just an amazing song played with amazing feel and passion.
Now back to our normal programming - - - Triple JJJ.

It begs the question if this is jjj's top 100 I wonder what their bottom 100 would be
