Beware Buying Used Plugins

I was looking at some used plugins on eBay, some were well priced and very useful. In the past I never really had a problem buying most used plugins that I needed...... buy then go to my iLok account then down load the authority. But now with some plugins (used) I have found it hard to get the authorization to upgrade.
EG:
Soundtoys......... if you need to upgrade your plugin you need the serial number, therefore the previous owner needs to transfer ownership to you as well as the iLok aurthority.
Waves........ I love this one, you might as well buy it new......quote.

How do I transfer ownership of my Waves?
If you wish to transfer ownership of a Waves product, it must be covered by
Waves Update Plan. A $150 USD transfer of license fee is required as well.
Complete these steps to transfer ownership of your Waves product:
Access your iLok.com account.

Choose Transfer Licenses from the left menu.

Insert the iLok (which has been authorized for the product you wish to transfer) then click Synchronize.

Select your iLok from the drop-down menu, then click Next.

Check the products you wish to transfer.

Enter the iLok.com account name of the person to which you transfer your products, then click Next.

iLok.com requires a $25 USD iLok transfer fee.
Complete the credit card page, then click Next.

Contact Waves Sales at 1-865-909-9200 ext. 2.

So be careful guys where you buy your pluggers from.

Thanks for the tip nIC - I've just upgraded my VI's with Komplete 5.
No more plugs for me for some time now - I have what I need/want.

Soundtoys need a serial number to upgrade, I've just been through the process upgrading Speed. For all of you who got your Soundtoys through the purchase of a Massive pack just type massive pack in the space for serial number.

Nice list of tips, although I don't think I trust anyone enough to buy a used plug-in. Too many possible pit falls.

I think the Waves philosophy is generally hated all round. Try re-installing your own plugs without WUP after a system upgrade...

But, I do think it's fair for the vendor to charge a 'service' fee if you like as they still have to devote some man hours to the task.

I think Waves $150, plus WUP if it is not up to date, plus iLok fee is excessive.

Yeah, $150 is a bit steep!
