Just a heads up on a scam ebay listing I came across today. It appears that an ebay Powerseller called Moneyman 1025 has had his or her ID hi-jacked and some mongrel has added over 400 items including a bunch of high end pro audio. The tell-tale signs are free overseas shipping, communication only via a gmail account and so on. A bit of back-end searching reveals the true Moneyman ID and none of the scam items listed there.

Shame, as that 1178 in original packaging looked tasty....as did the Ampex MM1000. Oh yeah, and something called a U48.......

thats an interesting set of gear , because i know somebody trying to sell that stuff here in oz , have you got an ebay link ?

Looks like its all been pulled. I sent a message to warn the actual seller about the hi-jack, and it seems to have been acted on quite quickly.

A nice case of ye olde "if it seems too good to be true" etc .....

I was wondering, because a few minutes before you first posted I'd been trawling through the 'Rack Gear' section of Ebay.Com.Au and it was nothing but the usual Behr1nger this, Jands that.

It was a US ebay listing. Someone had gone to a lot of trouble, I think it was 468 bogus items, all with elaborate photos and accurate descriptions. The other give-away was the fact that nearly all of the items were ending within a couple of hours of each other, so they were trying to scam as much cash as they could in as short amount of time before alarm bells were rung......much like the way a mastering studio operates!

Eh...just kidding.

You see this happen now and then.
Some ebay account gets hijacked; then all of a sudden they are selling hundreds of expensive items, usually audio gear- vintage synths especially. Sometimes you will notice that on each listing at the very bottom it indicates they were listed by some sort of program. It seems that the scammers just have these items already inputted in a program and spam them up in a second when they have a hijacked account.

It's good to check the user's buy/sell history. If they usually sell items completely unrelated and much less in value, but now all of a sudden they are selling loads of audio gear, there's a potential red flag.

Good to know eBay acted upon this. Hopefully they can work together with the relevant authorities to bring these offenders to justice.

I saw a good one the other day. Some guy was selling a "vintage" DBX 160 for some serious dollars, but had a pic of the UAD plugin. 10 out of 10 for effort.
