Howdy Gang, I'm after a bit of advice. My telephone provider (let's call them Telecom) lost my interest when they deleted my business landline number & adsl line. After many hours on the phone and weeks waiting for the service to reappear I decided to seek another supplier. Or should I? My question is , I've gone with just my mobile for the past couple of weeks and don't feel out of touch. How does it look to studio clients if the only contact is email or mobile number. I like the simplicity. Any thoughts would be appreciated Jim

I only run a mobile Jim. It's heaps easier. If I didn't have to worry about a fax machine I wouldn't bother with fixed connection at all. Internet is definitely a must though.

Here's what I do. Get a "bare copper" ADSL2 internet line from your ISP. Then ask them (or failing them, I'm with a company called Engin) about VOIP - Voice Over Internet Protocol - which lets you run a couple of phones off your internet line. So far as you and the outside world are concerned, these are normal phone lines with their own phone numbers, but they run over your internet line rather than through the phone network. And they are as cheap as chips - my business phone bill per month runs to about $15 (that's all up), and that typically includes at least one hour long conference call with the US and Europe.

Worth looking into, its the best thing I ever did with my telecommunications.

I just use a mobile number and email for my studio as well Jim..
Maybe consider a wireless internet connection and attach you VOIP to that (if it can be done - I dont use VOIP currently)

clients will call which ever number they can see available, without thinking twice :-)

i actually think if u supply only your mobile, it looks better than having the choice of landline as well..

i always feel like im interrupting someone when i call a mobile (if they've provided a landline too).
