Modular processing

Lots of people are all excited about the API Lunchbox and the modules that go in them. Do they pick up where the DBX 900 racks left off or are they miles ahead in quality/usability?

The DBX jobbies are hard to find and pretty pricey here, but cheap as chips from the USA. I know there were compressors/eqs/de-essers for the 900, but did they do any pre-amp modules or were they solely for insert type processing?

I honestly think they are miles ahead in quality.
Usability is up to the user though? A little too subjective.
There's so much choice and quality in the 500 series format I think.

Kurt to be honest i hav'nt used the DBX stuff, but I've been down the 500 series road and jumped off again quick smart. i never really got much of a thrill from using the 500 modules. Portabilty is about all I thought was good. I'll probably get flamed but hey I tried to like em.

The German danner modules such as the Neumann and Telefunkens really give me wood. I'm sending a couple of Telefunken pre's down to Rob next week to get racked.

You can get get em cheaper than the 500 gear and they sound about 10 times better to me.
