Racks

Can anyone post a link to a site that sells heavy duty racks on wheels? The only ones I can find look like they will collapse if i put my hardware in them. Probably need 8-10 RU. I'm setting up a temporary mixing area in my lounge room so just need something I can move out of the way when it's not in use.

Heath,
I've got an e-rack that I don't use anymore since I bought your desk. I think it's a 14 spacer. It's made by the same company as your desk. If you like, you can borrow it until you set yourself up a more permanent mixing area. Or, make me an offer to purchase.

Look for the Samson ones on ebay. You have to assemble them but they are pretty solid steel in black and have lockable heavy duty wheels.

I have a Samson rack. Got it from Venue Music for quite cheap. It's fully loaded with gear, sturdy and has wheels.

Cheers guys, Pete does it have an adjustment so it can slant it forward or backward? Thanks for the offer mate.
I really need one that is adjustable so I can sit it at a comfy angle and mix from my couch, probably need 2 so I can have a rack on each side of me at roughly 45 degrees, with a monitor controller in the middle between them.
I've seen the ones I'm after but can't remember where. Duuuuuuhhhhhhh!!! :)

No, not adjustable. They are slanted but permanently fixed.
I've seen heaps of adjustable pairs of racks on the net. Just not on music forums. ;-)

My Samson is 'adjustable'.
I just took the back two wheels off and left the front ones one. Instant slant.

I've done a record or 2 like that. Feels great having all that airflow around the "equipment". :)
I've always worked hunched over a desk so I thought I'd do my back a favour, but yeah I'm a lazy bastard and comfort is a must.

Its actually quite easy and alot cheaper to just build your own. I built some slanted racks for my gear and they turned out really great. 80 rack spaces and only about $200.
You just need to put time aside to do it.

You hav'nt seen my craftsman skillz, I don't have the patience. Though I do have a whole heap of "Spotted Gum" planks left over from the wooden floor installation in our new place, I was thinking of trying to make something for the studio with them, just dunno what yet though.
I'm gonna go for the Argosy rack, just seems easier. :)
Now I need speaker stands too, the good ones are bloody expensive, but worth it I guess. Anyone know where to get these ones cheaper or suggest better ones?

Seriously man, you will save heaps of $$$ if you got a cabinet maker to build them for you.. they even give you all the dimensions on the website!!
Plus, a cabinet maker can finish them the way you want to match your existing furniture colurs..

That is a great idea. Give him the spotted gum and the dimensions and pics, etc.

Personally I'd be going for something with much less of a footprint, with acoustically transparent cloth sides, but that's just me.

I'd say minimising reflections and cooling. Keeping it cool is one thing that was on my mind too, though will just get some vent spacers and a quiet fan if needed.
The spotted gum is very nice wood, so yeah I will do something constructive with it, we have a cabinet maker coming over to do some other stuff so I'll have a chat with him.

Purely acoustical, to minimize mass, reflections, resonances.
I've never experienced overheating when using a couple of vented rack spacers, although they've also generally been open-backed.

Yeah keeping an open back would be mandatory, the Avalon eq and Pendulum ES8 get the hottest, keeping the converters cool too is of major concern in a rack with other gear. I'll just keep it open and put some spacers in and see how it goes. I used to run them with about half a 1u spacing between them so a full 1u spacer should be fine.
Ahhhh farout sooooo keen to get my gear setup, it's been well over a year jonesing for an audio fix, I think I'll even be happy to play with a plugin or 2. :)
