This fine red dust we're getting blown all over Sydney this morning sure seems to be getting in absolutely everywhere, even with doors and windows shut tight. My studio space is now a riot of towels and sheets...... Was like waking up on Mars this morning - the car washers and window cleaners are going to love the next week!

This stuff is horrible, woke up and looked out the window and the sky was red and dark even at 8am. reminds of the rotten red "bulldust" in the Northern Territory.

Glad all my gear is still in boxes. Hope we get some rain to wash it away, this type of dust gets into bloody everything and is hard to get rid of. My new place is pretty airtight so should'nt be too bad. But still I hate it.

I always wanted to travel to the Nullarbor, but now all I have to do is look up because it's come visiting me in Sydney....... funny thing is they say the fishing gets awesome after red dust storms like these on the coast - the red dust is rich in iron, it settles out at sea and forms plankton blooms that fish thrive on...

My son woke me at 5am this morning as the wind was frightening him (he's 3) and it was like we were on Mars!!
I could smell the dust/dirt before I even saw it..

Yeah real bummer, it even smells bad outside. Hmmmm hopefully the dust from the Marralinga test range is'nt part of it. :(

I can barely even see trees 100 metres away. Seems to be getting worse again too. :( :( :(

I never thought about the gear. I better get some covers on.

oh man i made the mistake of leaving my windows open in my bedroom, everything is covered in dust. just hope my laptop and 002 aren't affected.and i'm allergic to dust as well.

So the dust made it Brisbane during a kids show we had on at the theatre today.

Don't know if it is as bad as down south but it was still enough to make the director go up to the lighing op and tell him to turn the hazer off.

The lighting op just pointed to the hazer still packed in its road case.

well I just spent the whole afternoon hosing down my balconies, my driveway, mopping the floors, wiping down any flat surface I could find, hav'nt even started vacuuming yet, grrrrr.

Yes, jeez, why they let it into Sydney - let alone EAST of the Harbour Bridge, is anyone's guess. As it settled over my studio gear, I did find solace in the fact that as the dust was probably millions of years old, at least it was good, quality vintage dust that just doesn't get made like that anymore....

Sorry to burst the vintage bubble but it was only the newest freshest top soil from SA. Apparently loaded with plenty of organic material and especially high in Nitrates plus a few extra goodies added by mankind.
The last dust storm in 2002 contained approx 4.72 tonnes of top soil. this one is expected to top that. It was 400 kms wide and measured 2000kms long.

Yes allowing it East of the bridge was not a good idea at all, heads should roll. I think all that lovely organic matter will probably give me a chest infection too, though I'm sure I can kill it with extra nicotine.

Mix the nicotine with an extra dose of spirits and it should be just like any other day.
