I found it online, but it's not the same...

I also like to leave it sitting around the control room, in the hope that someone will see it and decide to buy something shiny from it...

Ah Rick,

Reading that article has got me all nostalgic (at 29 years of age?). Just want to go out and buy a tube microphone so that I can add some Euphonic Colouration from the Second-Order harmonics to my mixes....

...There goes my dance card...bye bye turtlerockers <waving>

Seriously, very interesting article. I would have assumed that it was the tube that was creating the 'warmth' and the 'noise'. I suppose it makes sense that they are clean sounding. I mean 'back in the day' I'm sure they were looking for the cleanest signal path right? I mean they were wanting to sound cutting edge I'm guessing. It was the beginning. The striving for the best. Just like we look for better AD/DA's.

It would be like in 200 years people making AD/DA convertors that were modeled on the good ole Digidesign MBOX1 convertors..."Oh I've got to get one to have that 'wooly veneer' effect over my sound. These WEISS/MAYA 2209 models are too clinical...no wooliness..."
