Here we go it all starts now.
You know I never got the whole warm thing with tube stuff in Pro audio.
Sure I play guitar and I can hear the immense difference between valve and solid state amps as I own quite a few of each.
But when I first bought some valve gear for the studio I was trying to hear that warm sound it was suppose to have and I did not get it. Consequently I sold
a lot of my valve gear.
Now when I use what valve gear I have, I notice like Rick said is that some of it is super quiet and super clean.
One of these pieces is the old P series TL Audio preamps. Its just nice and clean and quiet .
When I use my Tube Tech stuff (which seems not very often and I wonder why I still have it), its just nice and clean and quiet.
Even some of the valve mics I own are just clean and quiet - well maybe not the Chinese one I have. I would say it has to be on par with my vacuum cleaner.
So I hope that Rick does not end up getting flamed for his article just by expressing his observations from his years of experience within this industry.

Seeing Rick does'nt drink grog I guess he just needed a big whiff of paint fumes to get that off his chest. What would he say on happy gas? heh :)

Anyway I won't disagree.

Just add another 0 on that offer on the Tube Tech and you could be getting very close to me selling it.

Tubes is just another flavour. You like/you dont like, you use/you dont use. But somee things I like about tubes is that they are fun. They warm cold studios. They glow in the dark. I just dont get this from plug ins. And I forgot they have knobs, lots of big knobs. I think my next child will be a tube, possibly twins. Norm

those vu meters were secretly modelled on my turtlerock logo ( as a surprise for me by weiss/maya !)
custom made on a limited run by sifam
there are just 20 in the world and they are only for the tube section of the convertors ,
there will never be any more .

if Maya sold you a pair , they would cost you about $1000 each !

err so no there are none spare :)

the tubes are custom made maya 300b - the actual unit is still in transit so i will post up more when it arrives

there will be no emoticons, and no votes either , this forums rules are run the same way the bills get paid to hosts it

Not that my opinion counts for anything, but I think not having emoticons is way better then having them.

I really liked the article, but the part that i liked the most was the comment at the end about putting limited controls on the gear that make it work in it's best setting. I see people going mad adding 23 release times to old varimu comps and thinking it must be better because you have so many more options, yet a lot of old gear was designed with limited controls because outside of certain parameters they don't really sound so good. More is not necessarily better..

I hope we can stil use descriptions such as wider, bigger, fatter, chunkier, otherwise I'm going to have to broaden my vocabulary.

At the bottom on the e-book you will see a rectangle with 3 dots • • •
Click on the last dot and wait for the page to show up.
It should be page 40-41. Page 40has the last page of Ricks article.
If you go to the left of the article it will highlight a back arrow that you can then press and it will go back to pages 38-39 where the article starts.

Thanks Dale, for some reason that page hasn't been fully loading for me........until 5 minutes ago. I had actually started to type "Thanks for trying to help, etc.,etc." and then decided to give it one more go.........lo and behold I actually started to see what you had described so I'm now reading Rick's article.
