I am keen to suss out studios and "hints/tips" for a ska band that I am recording in March next year.

They want drums tracked to tape (through a name console) and a great horn sound (duh).

So I am looking for a studio in the Sydney/Central Coast region that is tape enabled, has a great live room and has mics, pre's and EQ to draw out a cooking horn sound (yes I know good players are part of that).

I have a particular studio in mind already but I want to keep an open mind if someone can recommend anything else.

ALSO - If anyone has experience with horns in particular I'd love to hear advice you might have to offer.

Just putting it out there to get the communities feedback.

Paradise Recording Studios @ Gosford has a lot of ticks in the right boxes. Nice MCI tape machines, a bunch of quad 8 pres/eqs, a bunch of Telefunken V72's, Neumann 67's, 47's etc. etc. etc... and less than half the price per day of Electric Ave. 2 problems though - there is no, and I repeat no digital in the studio apart from a Dat machine and a CD player, and the studio itself is converted from the bottom of a house. The rooms sound pretty good - I've heard excellent records come out of there, but it may take a little getting used to. It hasn't got that huge schmick studio vibe going for it - this may or may not be a good thing. So it all depends what you're after / need.... I have to say though, I doubt you would be dissapointed at Electric Avenue or Paradise!
