Anyone know somewhere in Sydney that sells stereo mounting bars for mic stands? I'm after something cheapish but flexible that would allow for spaced pair/xy configs like a Sabra-Som ST2 or even a Koenig & Meyer 235-1 if anyone's familiar with those. They seem hard to find (as far as I know the Sabra-Soms aren 't sold in Australia). Buying OS is tempting but the shipping charges are twice the cost of the goods themselves....

I've got the Grace stereo bar, which cost me almost $500 with shipping -know what you mean!. I also have 2 other bars, which I bought in Sydney years ago from a now-defunct supplier - so that doesn't help you, either.
I know Mixmasters are importers for AEA ribbon mics, I don't know if they also stock their spacebar though it would be pretty pricey.
You could try some of the people who service the broadcast and film industry, such as Murray Tregonning, maybe also the Rycote distributors here.

Maybe you could email Ben and see if Beez Neez want to make any. I know he has lathes at his place.

I got one with a set of 451s. Maybe AKG sell them separately.

Thanks for the tips guys - a few leads to explore there, I didn't think getting a stereo bar would be so hard, I may have to just keep doing metal origami with 2 boom mic stands!

Factory Sound appear to carry several different K&M spacers.

The Grace one looks very cool, but $500 seems pretty steep for what you get!

None of the others seem to have measured repeatable adjustments and are basically a bit of flat steel with a slot in it. Go into the shed and knock something up out of scrap for free!

I got a stereo bar with a matched set of Beyer MC930's I bought. I could lend them to you if you need it as I am not using them for the next 3 weeks.

Thanks for the offer Dale, it's not urgent so I'll probably just scout for something to buy. I'll look into Factory Sound, Kurt - swore off them a few years back when they stuffed up a rack order for me, but I'll give them another look...

I got the Sabra Som ST-2 shipped from OS for far less than the Manfrotto one Barry's has, plus everything Barry's sells, in fact anything film related is grossly over priced. I reckon better to purchase the Sabra Som off the internet, you could get it for under $100 landed I reckon. They are discounted at the moment, USD$34 or something.

Hi Jason, yes the Sabra-Som ST2 was the one I was really hoping to find here. Just got a quote around US$39 for the Sabra ST2 bar plus US$75 for the shipping, what's that, US$114 landed here? That's around AUS$122 at the moment, significantly cheaper still than the Manfrotto (which is a bigger bar, triple mic rather stereo - I don't really need the third mount). How have you found the Sabra Som - nice and adaptable to different configurations? Locks nicely without slippages?

Steve, I found it a little tricky actually, but that may be due to my own inexperience. I was using it with 2 x Rode NT5's in an ORTF setup, which is rather particular. But, I managed to make some beautiful recordings of a choir with that setup. The ST-2 is sturdy, seems well made, and simple enough. I've never actually used it again, but don't think it would be worth selling for the amount I'd get for it. It is small enough so doesn't take up too much space, and hopefully I'll get to use it again some day. If you'd like to borrow it to try, you are more than welcome. Might help with your decision.
