I have been working out songs (from CD) coz I am doing an jazz/italian/spanish gig tomorrow.

Wife has already learnt the words. I left my part a bit late. But we just ran through the last one. Phew!
I am using a nylon string, and she sounds mellow and sweet. Just the two of us.

All these cool jazz progressions, you know, like iim7b5 into V7b9 into the im chords. Love it.

Anyway, it is soooooo hot. I have evaporative cooling, but feels more like humidity creating air.

Daughter has a friend over and wants pizza for dinner.
Now I have to go and make the bases (real flour/yeast, etc.)

Must be time to rehydrate.

Its bloody hot up here too....my studio is the only area that is airconditioned so I spend my days in there !
Just watched that Russel Crowe movie State of Play on the studio screen.

The pools green, the wife's upset..and I'm going to grab some Indian when I pick the daughter up from babysitting tonight !

Don't have a gig tonite (first Saturday off for months) so will stay home with another movie ...might even
have a drink or two !

Air conditioned in my Studio/bedroom too... wasted away the day stuffing a PCB, x0xb0x #795 almost complete. For those that don't know, it is a replica of the Roland TB303 Bassline. Not high end audio stuff, but it is analogue!

It's rained here on and off for almost 24 hours. Nice relief from 2 weeks of hotness.

The x0b0x Jason - cool! I've always wanted to do one of them. But I doubt I'd use it enough to justify it.

that's a pretty fun build - I got number #141 here.

I'm building a midibox 6582 a the moment after being inspired by futureman's monster.... Finally got the kit last week, and have assembled the main board, and am currently gluing the front panel mountings and waiting for a whole pile of white LEDs to show up so I can do the control surface.

I lost an 80 cm Flathead yesterday grrrrr, got it right to my feet, then it goes full speed into a rock and spits the hook. Was her lucky day cause she was coming home for dinner. But yeah 3 hours in that heat was enough to call it quits for the day.

I doubt I'll be using it much either, I just kinda wanted to build something, and the x0xb0x was cheap enough, and you can sell them for decent coin too.

The midibox is another that tempts me - no fi, what will you be using it for?

I'm stuck in that typical home studio ITB problem of hating pushing a mouse around a screen, but the solutions to get real time control over software parameters are either inelegant or too expensive.

So the idea of a custom made controller that suits my needs is very tempting.

midibox 6582 is a version of the midibox SID that uses 8 x 6582 SID chips. (commodore 64 had one sid chip)

so yeah - I'll be using it as a small & portable polysynth with buit in sequencer. Right now, still unfinished, more than anything else I'm excited in using it as a drum machine alongside my 808. keep the solid boom and crack drum foundation of the 808 and add weird space invader percussion around it.

problem is, your needs will usually change - so what was exactly perfect for your needs when you designed it might be totally useless a year later... unless you're making a bunch of small controllers that each do just one thing well..

Mercury hit 42 here this afternoon and the missus was out on a steam train with our 3yr man.. poor guys - would be stinking if the carriages aren't A/C'd..
I was watching my older kids do their acrobatics/trampolining showcase today in between doing a HD install ;-) (go Pete!!)
Going to cook a seafood linguine with sidedish of BBQ occy for dinner tonight - yummo!

I like beer.

I spent Thusday climbing the Pharos at Mt Arapalis in 40+ degrees..... and it was a hot climb!

lucky to get a day off a week at the moment. Meh. It's all money in the bank... but the days I
do get off a write offs... sleep and feet up on the coffee table. Glad I have AC!

I've spent today filling the rain water tanks and they overflowed so i was catching water into buckets and into the garden they went. But it did get warm enough for a beer or two this arvo. Looking into AC for the studio though as it is almost unbearable in summer. Anyone who installed recently any hints welcomed?

Was in Katoomba yesterday doing sound on 2 stages over 12 hours for the rockabilly festival 'Lady Luck Weekend'. Thought it would have been a lot cooler up there. But lugging around a couple of tonnes of gear sure heats up the body. I would have expected 10 degrees cooler. Great day though. Great bands!

we just got another AC fitted to the front of the house

weatherboard with tin roof, 4m x 5m room, west facing window with canvas awnings. regularly 6 degrees hotter than external temp.

so, a 5kw spilit system (mistubishi) and it's keeping the room, hallway and son's room cool. very happy.

although its not intended as a studio installation, i gotta say i'm impressed with how quiet it is - easily able to sleep over it.

$2,000 including installation. money well spent for a happy SWMBO and chid.
