I'd love to hear people's opinions of the best things they've heard this year, recordings and/or performances not gear (or you'd have a page long post gushing about my Tannoy's)
To start us off:
Simon & Garfunkel (live at Rod Laver)
MGMT - Kids, easily the most amazing commercial single this year(ish, I know it was released a while back)

New Alice In Chains record. Amazing huge sound. Biggest sounding record I've heard in a long time.

Dappled Cities - Zounds. Recorded at BJB's I think... Makes me feel all warm inside that such a rich, lush, textured sound was recorded in Australia

agree witht he Alice In Chains record but Pearl Jam at Sydney was great. Even though Vedder had a cold and wasnt the best vocal 'sound' the concert still rocked.

Dwezel Zappa at the Theby. The PA was 1/3 the size of most PAs that go into this venue. It was almost quiet. It was like listening on a really good HiFi at the sort of levels you'd rock out to in the lounge room. No plugs required, no ringing in the ears after. Sweet.

megan washington is very cool. I mixed her doing a duo with Paul Grabowsky at the BMW edge for last years melb jazz fringe festival. very tasty performance.

The Nice, live at the Filmore East December 1969, released 2009 (it's been a long wait). Recorded by Eddie Kramer to 8 track tape.
Balances are a bit off because of the limitations of the recording medium, but the sounds are fantastic.

Imogen Heap - "Ellipse" (performed, programmed, tracked, mixed all by her...) very impressive writing, programming and overall mix.
Equal favourite album of the year is Mutemath's "Armistace" - those guys are simply amazing performers, very clever songwriters. I find their recordings all have a distinctly low-fi quality to them, but that's part of the charm.
Love the new Switchfoot as well.
