Vintage Schoeps Microphones CM060

Hi can anyone fill me in about these...... are they worth getting, sound nice and what on.

I did a bit of research on these. I've never used one though.

As fas as my understanding goes, the CM060 is the body. Pay particular attention to what
capsule is included. The majority of capsules sold with CM060's and CM640's were apparently
"speech cardioids". These have a low end roll off of -12dB at 50hz. They were designed for
adequate pickup of vocals in less than adequate environments. If you were eyeing off the
CM060 and CM640 on ebay.au I think they were both of the speech cardioid variety. The
secret is in the polar pattern printed on the side of the capsule. A "universal" cardioid caspule
(ie, full range response without the low end roll off) will have a black dot above the cardioid
symbol printed on the capsule. A speech cardioid will be lacking the black dot.

I don't know about those mics in particular but I have used Schoeps mics in the past (looked like Neumann KM84's, but black).

Absolutely superb microphones. Great pedigree.

That ebay price is insane. I would buy if I could right now. A pair of Scheops mics for $1k? Awesome.

btw.. check out his other items. This guy is the king of NOS tubes.

I tried using a matched pair of the Schoeps with cardioid capsules to distance mic female opera vocals recently. Mics were roughly 6m away from the singer, but proved to be completely unusable because the recorded signal exaggerated the singer's sibilance beyond belief. I ended up replacing them with a pair of Neumann KM184s which worked a treat.

I tried the Schoeps out because a colleague of mine uses them to mic strings, especially violins. Given how receptive they were to the upper frequencies, I'd say they'd be great for this use...
