So It doesn't look like I will be selling my NTK any time soon wrong mic, wrong price.. I dont know.. I was always under the impression that this kind of gear had a good second had street price if you wanted to sell down the line..

I have heard the NTK sound sweet on some voices.. I know it is quite a brittle mic. but on my voice it is way to harsh!
I know some people change the tubes.. What is the deal with this and how do you get this done in Australia?
Is there anywhere or anyone that could do these modifications around Brisbane?
I am really shit when it comes to taking shit apart and putting it back together again.. if its any harder then changing a light bulb, I dont do it! (basically)

Cheers[/u]

What about Ben Sneesby, he is in Kyogle (northern nsw). He mods mic as well as builds them

www.beesneezmicrophones.com.au

call him, he is usually happy to discuss stuff.

It's easy to do yourself. I have done it on my K2.
Just unscrew the body and there is one screw holding the tube in place. The tube just pulls out.
Tubes can be ordered from many online sellers. It takes a E88CC (European) or 6922 (US) Tube.
Ask the seller what they suggest. I have a NOS Mullard in mine and sounds great.

I was going to sell mine also as it's only a so-so vocal mic, however I used it on acoustic guitar and it's just what the mix needed. Admittedly it was a very nice sounding Martin to begin. Normally I'd go for the Coles 4038. So it can have its place.

Off topic...but I too share your 'stuck with ntk' syndrome.

I got mine from a guy in Sydney who used to fix old valve radios - not sure if he has any left, but I have bought other tubes from Brent Jesse in the USA.... http://www.audiotubes.com/ and also "Bowie" from Gearslutz .... ProAudioTubes@aol.com
Both are very knowledgable about tubes and will tell you what tubes to get according to the sound you are after.
Bowie is cheaper but probably doesn't have quite as big a range.
You might also want to check out this from the Rode website.... http://aus.rodemic.com/support.php#q12
