Rob, thanks for re building my byer 66 - the one i baught from here before christmas.

yes it is dark, yes it distorts, yes its a quiet guitar amp

but i love it.

i just recorded a couple of acoustic tracks and it was fantastic.
her voice is really sibilant and this pre sounded by far the best of what we have for her. (with a tlm 103)

its great on guitar (amp mic'd) and is a great clean guitar amp.

Hey Damien what did Rob do and how much did it cost you? I got a Beyer too, waiting for a Birthday!

he totally rebuilt it.
added 48v, pad and di inputs.

the price (ill let him tell you) was much less than a new pre and im totally happy with the cost and result.

it now cost me (purchase + rebuild) more than its probably worth to resell, but i didnt do all this to sell it.

its fantastic on the stuff im currently recording. im recording a really sibilant female vocal and i dont need to deess at all. the mixes i have done so far havent had amy eq.

tlm 103 - byer 66 - al smart - 2192 - tools. makes me happy....

Did Rob remove the 15 watt amp side of it? Or leave it in? I'd love to see a photo if you got some?

This is a big job, turning the audio module into something useful in the modern studio and with an acceptable technical performance level.
There are always lots of ways to slice and dice a job like this, in Damien's case he got the full monty. Damien's unit did get off to a good start as his had already been fitted with a UTC input transformer.

yeah from what I've heard coming from the studio while Damien has been recording in the last 2 weeks the Byer sounds great.. The guitar amp section through a Marshall 1960TV quad sounds great also on a clean sound!! Haven't had a chance to use it myself yet though - can't wait!!
