Hi all,
am thinking of purchasing a Vase Bassman (all tube) 100w amp + 4 x 10" cab for studio / gigging. Asking price is $450.00 Aus - anyone owned one of these or suggest if this is a good price?

Yeah, I've got one of these, and I really like it. I used it for gigging back in the 80's as a stage bass amp, but not at really high volume levels. I found the speakers crapped out a bit if I boosted too much under 100Hz with an in-line eq.
But, it makes a great sounding guitar amp for in the studio. The left channel volume knob pulls out fro extra bass boost, and on mine it does this kinda cool scoop thing in the mids.
It sounds pretty damn good just cranked up to the point where it breaks up into tube/transformer saturation. Tone has some similarities to early AD/DC. The only problem is that you can't stay in the same room as it!
I reckon $450 is a good price. If you don't buy it, let me know, I know someone who'd probably grab it at that price.

Thanks for the reply! Thinking I'll snap it up as it seems like a good price for a nice tube head / cab. I'll let you know if I change my mind though.

Just FYI I bought the amp, got it for $400.00 and the guy was incredibly generous and threw in a couple of six packs. Score! 8)
Aparrently a guy in Brisbane is starting to produce new Vase labelled cabs and has plans to create reissues of the heads in the not too distant future.
Sounds beautiful, is a bit noisy and needs a retube but produces lovely 'vintage' tone with my 70's p-clone.
Looking forward to gigging the rig, though not to lugging the thing up and down steps... :?
