Hi Turtlerockers - I have a problem.........
Recently I recorded an album at 96khz -BUT - the external clock (Mytek) was set at 88.1khz.
So protools has written the audio tracks stamping them as 96khz files - yet they are really 88.1khz.
So the files play faster - its a common problem with protools and having an external clock set incorrectly.
I know of a tech that can change the "stamped" 96khz files and restamp them as 88khz files by rewriting them
Does anyone know how to do this?
Has anyone done this ?

Bummer, I hate it when that happens. Copy the files before you do anything. Can't you just play them back with the system set to 88.2? You could do a SRC but that could bugger the sound, though there are some good SRC's these days.

Chris you could try consolidating the files, then export them as 88's (to a desktop folder) and re-import into a separate new 88 session. I'm sure you've been down this road.

import at 88.1 and tell PT not to do a SRC conversion into the new session.

i think thats right? the figure might have to change, but re-importing without SRC would be the easiest and most non damaging way me thinks.

Otherwise, a batch SRC in something like soundforge could be the go.

This seems to be a common problem on the DUC forum. The solution is to create a session at 88.2 and and use Import Session Data to import the tracks from the 96 session, choosing not to SRC the audio.

i made a mistake,

the first part of my post was right, under no circumstance do u wanna be doing an SRC on the recorded files, as that will keep them at the old pitch....u want to import them with the wrong sample rate so that their pitch adjusts.

this will preserve the audio quality too.

Look we were meant to have jet packs by now. Don't start me. The least we could have done is perfect proper DAW vari-speed controls.

Importing session data (without SRC into a new session created at the original external clock rate) keeps all editing/dropins/playlists/mixing info in place. Use Copy Audio rather than Link Audio so that the new session has self-contained audio files.

It is common knowledge that jet packs usually operate at 256 ktpg, but there's been many a mishap from accidently setting at 192 ktpg.

I have a feeling John Howard has his own wayback machine, and it got stuck in the 50's. :)
Probably needs a new flux capacitor. Have you got a spare one in the shed Rick?

nah the flux cap is fine... its a rare little telefunken metal tube i am looking for
only made during world war 2 for the third reich

Create a 88.2k session
Import session data - and deselect sample rate conversion.
So simple!
