i cannot wait untill the new speaker system is setup in the new turtlerock

in ours the super tweeter is omni and goes up to 390 k - just incase we ever figure out a way to make or hear a noise that high !
and the omni tweeter costs 30 k ! and weighs 26 kg !

that said its taken us long time to get this far and the sytsem still doesnt make noise yet ( mostley coz i havent paid for al the bits but thats another story ...)

but as they say i just cannot wait any faster :)

Why does it stretch that high? What's the point? Are you making some sort of high freq sound cannon?

No no, Rick can actually hear that high, he has bionic ears. :)

They're really heavy. I was surprised when I looked at them vs actually picking them up. I'm also looking forward to hearing the new speaker system. 7 foot of sound comin' at ya from each side has to do something cool.

It will certainly keep you regular..

I don't think there will be a dog within a 20 km radius of Rick's new studio. Those tweeters are going to make sure of that.

I was interested, is it one tweeter facing upwards or a few of them in a circle facing directly outwards to make it omni, or....?

I heard these Bowers and Wilkins Nautilus speakers are $250K per single. (unpowered)

The best part of that link was finding the Real Worlds winter sampler and listening to a few great recordings, esp Charlie Winston.
Listening through those B&W's would be a bit of a step up from what i'm used to though!

The huge tweeter frequency response is so the if Chuck Norris comes in to get something mastered, it won't sound muffled to him.

I have absolutelty no idea why, or how They go that high
what I would play on them to check the freq response or how I would even check the freq response

there is not a commerical mic that can record about 40 and most cannot really record above 15 k

But my amps , my console and now my converters can go that high so why not the speakers
if I am going to play the fool I might as well get totally wet!

so if I can just find something to playback and someone to hear it that high it will be all good:)

reality is because they are omni( they work on this wired spun titaniam orb diffusser)
that is put in place to scatter the upperharmonics
instead of " pinpointing" them as the other tweeter does
does it sound any good..?

hmm... so, whats the frequency response of air? I'd be expecting a bit of roll-off in the medium here...


anyway - you want to drive your system at 390k, buy a test oscillator. even a basic one should go to 1MHz. and then any old CRO will check the whole path right up to your speakers...

if I had to make a 390k sound receiver, I'd be looking at some kind of piezo element. I used to work for a company designing hydrographic equipment, and designed a 200k echosounder using a "standard" (hydrographic survey standard) piezo transducer, no problems. I don't see double that frequency being impossible.

if the tweeters are simple enough design (ie just basic electroaccoustic elements - not powered, for a start!) you could possibly use one of them as a transmitter and the other as a receiver. then wire the receiver into some high bandwidth amp module (a video amp?? do you have mic preamps on your 390k desk?) for gain..

but yeah... not knowing anything about your $30k tweeters, I'd be really really really cautious about running any high frequency tests on them.. would hate to blow one!

however i really do know the insanity of what i am attempting , i am going to make the best mastering suite ever made
or i wont... which ever works out :)

will the hourly rate be going up ...?
well no i am actually counting on it going down

but that is an entire diatribe that can wait for a while .


personally i feel devising a studio plan where "what i do cannot be done at home " is the only way forward for me

does anybody actually need what i do ..?

I'm usually happy with knob twiddler. And then they laugh and it's all funny. hehe. But nobody really knows what we all do. We are all messin with things we mostly have no control over. Hence we are all in search of the things that give us greater control. peace t'rockers.
