Another mic problem

I have a pair of Audio-Technica ATM29HE (I think that's right) which I use on guitar cabs. One of them has started to sound bloody horrible. It's all trebley and distorted.

Visually the capsule/diaphragm look fine. Any idea what's wrong with it? Could it just be dirty?

AT capsules are very cheap to replace, but bloody hard to get apparently, I've had some on order at two local music shops for ages (like 6 months) (Also have a dead ATM25 and Pro25 which use the same capsule)

Hi Kurt;

Our company is the distributor and service agent for AT. We have stock of some capsules, out-of-stock shouldn't take more than a month if its not an obsolete model;

They are obsolete but I've been assured the capsules are available, they just never show up :( I'd much rather spend $30 (that's what I paid for an ATM25 capsule several years ago) on a capsule than a few hundred on a new mic.
