Looking for some sifam or similar meters

Am building a couple of SSL clones and wonder if anyone has any 1ru sifam meters or similar, 1ma if preferable, but any under 5ma will do.

there are some appropriate meters at jaycar for $20 - just i dont think they'll fit a 1RU case.
or try rs components (if you place an order, get them to send you a catalogue - much easier than online ordering) - pricier, but will fit 1RU.

Rick had some for sale a while back, but as they're spare parts for the SMART compressors, they weren't cheap.

I ordered some from Mouser in the US when I built my SSL clones, no hassles at all. The egdewise 20mm high Modutec (Part ME-DMA-001) works really well in a 1U case.

Have you got your VCA chips yet?

Thanks for the tips, RS has sifam meters for about $90-100, will check out Mouser though.

the sifam meter that is used on the ssl comps ( and some neve ) is a custom order part,
you can only get them direct from sifam if you have the part number and are prepare to spend $360 each ( oh yeah you will have to order a minimum of 10 and wait untill they are ready)

i only have two and you cant have them - sorry !

you dont need vu meters for that comp you need mA meters
i have never seen a decent substitute athough there are plenty of people happy with the ones they have found and they seem to work

if you want sifam vu meters - i have dozens of them in a few different styles that i sell real cheap to forum types.

So how is everyone ssl clones going anyway.

I've just added Steffen's sidechain HPF board made by greg @ the Lab.
I have swaped my Polyesters for Polypropyline and 5532's in output section for OPA 2604 and Elna caps(not sure if theyve made a difference though.).

Mine is sounding sweet. Havn't heard original and Im sure everyones sounds different but the changes i've made have made me a little happier. :lol:

One of mine is still in pieces, the other is assembled but has a buzz instead of a signal in the right chanel - I haven't yet had the chance to go bug hunting, I've been fixing up a MS Mic first.

Mind you, the Modutec meter is showing nicely about 5db compression on that old buzz, so the metering looks right!

What's the HPF filter board do? Sit across the sidechain insert points and de-ess? Got a link?

Am still in the gathering parts stage. How have you guys done the front panel? I'm thinking of getting it engraved or laser etched?

Barney, I got my panel cut specifically by Front Panel Design is the USA, looks good but but its a pricey option, especially with postage. If I had my time again, I probably give Lazertran a go (google it making sure you have the "z", there's a distributor in Melb).[/i]
