Hi all,
I'm still looking for a studio and its beginning to drive me and the spouse spare. So I'm looking to hire a good sized room practically anywhere in inner melbourne to setup my post production workshop. I have a lot of work and a lot of clients so if its a bigger studio premises I will be bringing in a lot of exposure to your current business. I'm fully kitted out to setup an entire studio too if thats needed (mics, pre's, outboard, PT HD, Monitors, stands cables, the works) and I'm happy to share the equipment in a joint facility if the terms/relationship is good for both. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has the space or perhaps too much space or needs a professional and dedicated partner. I want NO time wasters.
I'm seriously in a bind and need some sort of break in my current situation. Any tips, directions, hints, secret passwords, contacts, or special officials to bribe will be gratefully appreciated.

Hi Jamil,
Indeed I have. I've approached a few studio owners but haven't found a situation that works. either the rooms are already kitted out or the rooms are too small. There's also the question of distance, I want to be in the inner melbourne suburbs as all my clients are based pretty centrally and I work out of a range of inner studios for tracking.
There are of course lots of private studios and/or other ventures that I could conceivably work alongside but they are more difficult to find.

Didn't that Senad chap have a recording house for sale that he was selling?

yep, he did and he sold it too. I don't know how anybody affords a house at the moment in melbourne though. Minimum half a million and the median price has risen 30% in the last 12 months. Any house I would actually want would probably be 800,000+ and there's no way I'd even have a deposit for that. I really dont understand how people buy houses.... I mean I work really hard, do around 20-25 albums a year plus compositions and theatre, and teaching 1 day a week. The business grosses 50-60k plus and I can't work any harder. How could I ever pay off an 800,000 house?

we may not have an SSL (C24, Neve Summing Mixer and 22 outboard pres - Neve, API, Telefunken etc) but we certainly have a killer studio along with rehearsal studios.. noise (or lack thereof) in our recording studio is not an issue whatsoever. however within the rehearsal studio part of the studios there isn't as much isolation (heaps more than is acceptable for rehearsal bands and touring bands but not for recording) - which is why we have the recording studio! :) As everyone who walks into our complex says "wow, there isn't anything else like this anywhere!".. oh and "rockstars" - yes there are a few wannabes including a handful of real ones - but aren't we all?? :)
check it out

although we are nowhere "inner" melbourne being approx 40kms from CBD (35 mins off peak on freeways).

Hi Geoff, yep your facility looks killer and if it was closer there's no doubt I'd be using it. And I stand corrected regarding the rehearsal studios. Yours looks a fair away from bakehouse et al...
Still the question remains, anybody got a 'b' room that needs filling or any other suitable space or tips towards someone that might?

What's happening with the B room at Atlantis...is that too small?

I've talked at length with Dave at the B room at atlantis. No, its not too small and in many ways would suit except its full of gear already and its in current regular use so I couldn't use my own equipment and I would struggle to complete my work within the time available in that space. I wold love to find another studio in a similar situation though. I use the atlantis main room quite a lot and it would be perfect to track in the main room and do post production in the B room. Any facilities like that out there who'd like my business?

3phase in Brunswick have an SSL in their studio. You wouldn't know it though as it's quite hidden. I've tracked strings there before, worked well.
