LOGIC PRO Genius Bar Question

I have a USB Control Surface and am working my way through the Controller Assignments (Apple-K) page.

I've got the hang of the Learn function I think, and have used it to successfully automate the entire Channel EQ plugin, for example.

I cannot figure out how to assign the audio track record arm function (the R box at the bottom of the channel fader). I can automate the track solo (S box) and mute (M box) functions, but not this. Is it that you simply cannot automate this using midi channel messages, or am I doing something wrong?

You need to manually assign the key command to a midi CC control, you can't "learn" it like you would a plug-in control.

The key command is Ctrl-R for Record Toggle

There is a good tutorial here:
http://www.sound-unsound.com/forums/tutorials/3127-how-configure-your-axiom-control-surface-logic-pro-9-a.html

And the Apple manual link is here:
http://documentation.apple.com/en/logicpro/controlsurfacessupport/index.html#chapter=2%26section=4

Hope this helps.

Thanks Simon

Being a key command, it applies to the "current" track whereas with the surface "learn" function you can assign it to whichever track you want, but that's given me food for though about possible other ways in which to use this controller - I'm having lots of fun with LOGIC's ability to respond to control surfaces, even automating my favourite plugins.

Your answer is much appreciated
