First time posters selling

Now, I don't want to get all preachy and that..
But is a first time poster coming around these parts, putting something up for sale or wanted, and never posting again in the spirit of this forum?
It kinda irks me... should there be a limit so that you have to 'earn' the right to post in the 'for sale' board?
I've bought things from people here (And sold) and I like the idea of buying off a veteran of this forum.. it's a security blanket.. sure, they could screw me, but the chances are less likely if they are a regular of these parts.
If i'm here all on my own in these views, feel free to flame me.
(As other forums say... please discuss)

Depends I guess. I've seen one first time poster selling something recently that probably doesn't post here very often because he's too busy makin top ten albums.
I think it's good to see stuff offered here before evilbay..but some other forums do have a minimum post count before you can use the classifieds section.

I just created a poll because I can. It has no bearing on anything, anywhere so don't expect the outcome of the poll to yield any changes. Perhaps we should have had a minimum post threshold to vote on a minimum post threshold.

Another forum I'm a member of has a three month after sign-up no-selling limit, new members can't even see the for sale section. Some people like to lurk and learn...

You know what it's actually hard enough to even get to join this forum
so I don't really care how many times somebody post before they want to sell most of our members are lurkers
anyway
if somebody gets a raw deal I will find out
this town is too small for crooks to hang out here
that said if it's too good to be true it usually is
keep it in mind

Darn it - I voted, only to find my selection was scoring the lowest percent! I sure can pick losers!
If Peter Gabriel wanted to sign up to sell his stuff cheap on this forum, I for one won't complain. Likewise any of those US NBA "stars" with gear they thought they should get to make that rap record that didn't work out so well. Offload it here for a major tax loss, please. We'll accept $100 Ferraris and Lambo's as well. This is a well moderated forum (thanks again to Rick and Mark for wearing the time and cost of this). Whether someone is a forum vet or not, and what they have actually posted, does get factored into my buying and selling here for sure, but to say newbies cannot sell will simply mean lost opportunities so far as I can see.

well, i think this can go either way, because i have been reading about everyones adventures on this forum for years, and have only recently been in a position where i needed a ton of gear to move in and out of the studio.
the big plus for me was trust. ebay seem too anonymousfor my liking. buying here is like buying from an old friend (or at least a friend of a friend).
i generally dont have too much to contribute to the discussions, i dont really know enough to give advice, but know enough to not have to ask a million q's about recording either.
plus i've had many friends and mentors that are a phone call away too!
maybe keep the sale page open to all members (first post or not) and if one of the team here knows the dude, reffer him.
it seems to happen that way naturally anyhow...

I agree that it is a fairly small well connected bunch of people here. I recently scored a Vari Mu through a members former studio of employ, worked out seamlessly. I also know of a new member who is selling stuff at the moment who is brand new in posting only. But a long time reader and valued member of the music industry, does that mean he shouldn't be able to join in all forums when he signs up?

I'm happy to see for sale ads from other people in Australia, even if they don't post on here. I understand that some people have better things to do than chat about crap on forums..
To be honest, I'm a bit more wary about people with no posting history buying stuff from me when I sell, than I am from buying something from someone with no posting history (especially when another forum member jumps into their thread and says they know and recommend them - but even without that, the australian music scene is small, and anyone with a known bad selling history would be shot down pretty fast if they tried selling things on here) Anyway - back to unknown buyers - I'd say that when I'm selling things on here, about 80% of my off-site emails, or PMs from people with an account but zero posts end up being tyre kickers, while most regular contributors are actually serious about what they are looking for (even if we end up unable to agree on a price!)

Hi all,
I think it's healthy to be wary of new members with no history who sign up only to seem to want to sell something and not really contribute anything.
But wait, that sounds like me!
I've been a lurker for years, I know a few here and I've bought a few bits and bobs that went well thanks MM and ANJ, I'm sorry I missed that vari-mu the other day.
Been doing this stuff for longer than I haven't.
You got some great folk here that write some good stuff so I don't feel I need too.
Actually been trying to post for years but couldn't jump through all those hoops.
I enjoy hangin out and seeing whats up.
I feel its up to the individual to work out who they want to transact with.
It's usually not that difficult a thing to do.
If I can't sell it then I'll give it away.
Is this the right place?
So say no to bigger government and get back to whats real bah blah blah you dont want to encourage me!!
Cheers

Hi all
Newb forum lurker here, but thought I'd give my 2 cents.
I started reading this forum because I read AT and recognised Rick's name. I realised people here either know their stuff or are learning it seriously. There's a lot to learn from reading here.
Look, I have a full time job, I won't stiff ya on a sale or anything BUT I won't be offended if someone says "sorry mate I don't know you or anyone you've worked with"... or "sorry that price is for mates and I don't know you"...
I've sold some audio stuff on allclassifieds (ACT!) and I've gotten email replies that I'm pretty sure are Nigerian scams.
I guess what I'm saying is don't trust people out of guilt, keep your wits about if you're selling online.

Everytime I've bought stuff off TR (maybe 4 times now?) Ive always had a good chat with the seller.
I think the phonecall is important for any forum based sale....
never been burned on GS either. almost scammed on ebay once but yeah, just be cautious. get emails sent from non hotmails etc etc.
