Neve 33609 JD internal operating help needed

I have been using my 33609 and love it
however the unit seems to be operating internally at -10
it inputs and outputs correctly but the internal operating level doesn't match the settings
ie, when pumping out a mix out of a sound card at +4 the limit function kicks in at a +15 setting

I need to turn down quite a bit before any signal can hit the unit and be unaffected by compression
my thought is that there are some jumpers within the unit that need to change?

has anyone had this issue?

Hey Mark, are you gaining up the signal internally? Most (maybe all?)of the Neve stuff takes the compression sidechain from the input, but takes the limiter sidechain from the output, just post the gain section and pre the output transformer.
If you are adding gobs of gain with the gain control on the 33609 it could be affecting things.
Of course it could have nothing to do with this also. I am just taking a punt really.

the 33609 has an internal trimpot adjustment for limiter threshold, .... at least the originals did

but i don't think it would trim down that low anyway

you know for sure you have +4dBu coming out of your soundcard? Can you generate a tone at this level and see how the limiter threshold relates?
