Is there a portable DIY design for a power filter using for example a simple DC Power choke from Dick Smith?

This would be for a qualified electrician to build so i can have it in my kit for when it's needed for noisy venue systems where i can't easily get the stage and FOH on the same power in order to avoid earth loops, or the annoying buzz when the lighting dimmer operates. Another application would be for when setting up in a different room for live recording but obviously being connected to the main PA.

Hi Chris, that part is low voltage for use in DC supplies. No good for mains. For portable mains moderate filtering, maybe one of the basic ART rackmount units or something similar. It'll give surge protection and basic EMR/RFI filtering and will at least be energy authority approved.Or a little in line UPS, but they're heavy and expensive There used to be Jaycar or Dick Smith kit, but that involved winding toroidal inductors etc . Best to use something commercially available when dealing with mains.

I use an in-line ups at home, it was around $300 at Harvey Norman and isn't too heavy....

Could be a life saver if there's a power outage when recording (I know my Fostex D2424 loses the current recording if power is cut before hitting stop)
