I'm interested to hear from TV (ad) guys what you consider your "go to" amp for recording guitars. I've been getting very good results from a Laney VC-30 (true) above all things, but as I'm getting rid of my trusty 1962 Bluesbreaker (which has made its way on the classifieds here...anyone?) that has always served well for live, I'm keen to replace it with something solely for broadcast/tvc duties.

This is indeed apples and oranges of course, but all the same I'm keen to hear what you may be using. I've experimented with smaller Fender combos in the past with mixed results, but they were all new and perhaps going back some years may help in the sound stakes there. Obviously smaller amps are where it's at, no matter the badge. I've never been one to DI everything and use software emulators, although I do see its merits and have used it to change a sound or add another dynamic. Curious as to what works for you.

if u'r looking for 1 go to amp, you're going to need a shitload of "go to" pedals too !

diff amps for different sounds imo...

cant beat a Bogner for metal....same as people recommend Fender's for cleans...etc.

in addition, i'm not sure how recording guitars for a TVC would be much different to recording guitars for music?

In theory there's no difference of course, I'm just curious as to what production music guys are using is all because there are some amps that alone cover a lot of bases from the source sound. Having a range of guitars from each food group makes more of a difference than effects/pedals for source sound, but no denying a couple of choice stomps come in handy. My fav by the way being a Fulltone Fulldrive II. I'm talking more from the clean camp really, you can - as you say - always dirty a sound up.
