looks like we did it - part 2

so kristian had a really bad turn
para phrasing the call i had with him today

his bowel got blocked by a swollen tumor , and he had two choices
1) immediate emergency surgery to remove as much bowel as needed to free up his system - which he was told would likely have disastrous results on his body or
2) the unthinkable and it would be quick

going into surgery he was told he had a slim chance (maybe 5%) of the surgery doing any more then freeing up the blockage and things were pretty dire
with the havoc it could bring upon him

so apparently they went in stripped him open and did the work
but by some freak event they were able to remove the only tumors they could find left after his chemo and they were the ones doing the bowel blocking and the loss of bowel tissue was quite minimal in the scheme of things
SO IT SEEMS THEY HAVE NOW REMOVED ALL THE TUMORS from his bowel which was a very very unexpected result !

he has to recover from the surgery but it looks like in fairly short order he will be back on the can with a normal functioning bowel
amazing really ...

the sirt hot rocks we ponied up for seem to have his liver tumours on the ropes as well ...

life keeps throwing him curve balls and he keeps hitting them for six

he was quite chirpy for a guy that had been sliced and diced from the big end up

way to go :)

Thanks everyone. It's been a rough 2 weeks. As Rick said, it was an emergency procedure and was either go in or say goodbye.

I was discharged today... actually, two days ago but wound up back in hospital via ambulance so I've been discharged twice now.

The SIR spheres you all helped with are working well so it was decided not to aggravate the liver any further and rest the chemo for a while. This was great except it allowed the bowel tumour to get back to work, causing an almost complete blockage of the large colon.
Doc said I had a 5% chance of NOT having to remove the entire large colon and leave me with a bag for the rest of my life. 70%-80% I would lose it all. Also no guarantee they could get to the tumour because it was located very close to main arteries.

They opened me up and were totally surprised, they got the whole tumour and I only lost 10% or so of my bowel. I have some short term adjusting to do re: a bag etc, but it's totally reversible and will be switched back when the bowel has healed.

There's a list of miracles a mile long leading up to this operation.... you just wouldn't believe it.

I'm really sore and am on heavy pain meds (yay for the morpheine train) so I'm going to be very slow for a few weeks yet, maybe 5 or 6, but I'm on the way up. Thanks for your prayers and support. 12 days in hospital was a shocker.... very glad to be home with the wife and kids.

k.

Great work on getting that tumor out Kris! FWIW I think you'll learn to live with the bag pretty quick, and after all the crap you've been through I'm sure it's the least of your worries. My dad has one at the moment as he went under the knife a couple of months back. He reckons it's a bit annoying to begin with, but you adjust and before you know it will be time for the reversal.

Keep on keepin' on!

+ 1 Rick.....

Just incredible. This incident seems to be a blessing in disguise. Your bowel tumor is gone and your liver tumors are on the run.

If I was a spiritual man I'd say there's a miracle afoot.

so good to hear Kris, last night a very good friend of mine called me to tell me that he was having tests today for a possible liver cancer. It was so great to be able to share with him the little I know about your journey. Inspirational...
