ok so i now know this is a "common issue" but i didnt at the time.

we have mac os9 pt mix 5.xx and a bunch of firewire drives.

if i connect the wrong 2 firewire drives at the same time, one of the drives overwrites the other and i have to rebuild the disk to get my data back. not fun.

so my question is, how do you guys deal with multiple fire wire drives/ sessions/ engineers all using the same computer?

is there a firewire switcher, smart hub (that makes sure there arent 2 drives with the same id) or any other way?

we have been running 1 drive at a time, but i need to copy some stuff from between 2 drives, and these are 2 that have been nackered before, so im scared.

cheers,

damien

I've never had this problem - do the external drives have the same name?

i have removable bays in my pc, but not in the mac. can you get removable bays for a g4?

I have a external firewire case with removable drives in it. I only ever use firewire for backups and each drive is labeled FW1,FW2,FW3 etc etc
Never have more then one drive going at a time.

i have 8 firewire drives([icecube) daisy chained together hooked up to a G4 ive done this for ever, i do this because it is convenient and hassle free i also record everything i do to these drives, , no problems, just remember they are not hot swappable like they say they are ,you can easilystuff your fire wire buss, turn off puter before installing
