301?

Postby Linear » Wed May 17, 2006 11:00 am

Hi,

I heard a rumour today that 301 has been sold to ex-savage garden guitarist daniel jones - true or false?

Interesting investment.

not true , not quite,
it seems 301 mastering in castlereagh are closing on june 30
( which we all knew right ) and relocating to alexandria in new premises next door to the recording studios to be opened when they are finished
( 1-4 months) .

the 7th floor in castlereagh street, (301) has been sold , and apparently it is dan that has bought it the 7th floor
minus the gear and 301 mastering business which is moving

dan has his own ssl desk and wants to use it as his private "writing" studio we have had several conversations about this and he is a sweet , down to earth guy and given his track record and his presumably overflowing bank balance this purchase makes perfect sense to me.

now i wonder what will happen to those famous 301 now empty mastering suites and the men that work in them...?

actually the end result will be of no surprise to anybody except tom misner, and maybe even he has figured it out !

I read about it here:

THINGS WE HEAR

* Former Savage Garden guitarist Daniel Jones has bought Sydney's Studio 301 and will relocate to Sydney in June, before wife Kathleen De Leon delivers their first baby in August.

Obviously I didn't mean anything untoward about it, I don't even know the guy! I meant 'interesting investment' because overall, studios are a pretty poor investment at the moment. The guy's cashed up so it doesn't matter anyway.

We always joke here that we would have been much better of buying a Subway 10 years ago.

I did a mastering session there a few years back with one of the 301 mastering engineers. From what he said those rooms have some pretty cool history in regards to the Australian music industry, albums recorded there etc. It's possible that it wouldn't take much to bring them back to new again.

actutally.... rumours here in tv land are flying that Mr Jones might be involved in the next idol series.... could be why he's relocating?

Life indeed goes on but some amazing aussie music has come out of that place and I was just being nostalgic. I'm over it now.
