hi all. looks like me and the wife have found our new home.

it's got a double car garage with peak roof which is solid and looks promising in terms of fitting out as the new MFDU.

i'm proposing to do most work myself, but can anyone recommend an acoustician i could engage to ensure the design is appropriate (and worth the effort put int building it)?

anyone that knows me knows i am not attempting to compete against the Turtlerocks or Indent's out there, but i do want to do it right.

don't have full measurements as yet. but the space promises to allow for a main room (control/live) with an iso booth (hopefully large enough for a drumkit, but mainly for acoustic instrument/vocal purposes).

been looking into "one-room studio" threads through the tape-op forums and it sounds very exciting - does anyone here have experience with tracking in the control room?

My setup is a "one room" all purpose thang. Originally, before we bought the place about 8 years ago, it was a downstairs rumpus room similar in size to the d'ble garage which is over the other side of the house. We initially used it as our general music/rehearsal room but it gradually evolved to become more recording oriented.

Personally, I like the open vibe of our space but it's not going to be everyone's "cup of tea", still there's nothing quite like a low light over the console, candles all around and the sound of a Les Paul ripping at 1 o'clock in the morning knowing that no-one outside can hear you :-).

Hey Chris, a guy named David Flett does a lot of studio design and building around Melbourne. He's open minded. Maybe try to track him down. If I find his number I'll post it here.
