Anyone know what this is?

Hi Guys,

I was cleaning out my garage on the weekend and I rediscovered this old mixer. I have had a search but can't find brand or a model on it any where. Anyone out there who may of used, or seen one of these that could tell me what it is or where I might start looking to find out?

Thanks

Tony

It's an "archaeologically significant find", that's what it is! :)

Mark- Akai, didn't even think of them. I will have a search on the net with akai as a starting point.

Ray- It certainly felt like a "archaeologically find", buried under a layer of dust that could be carbon dated. Not sure how 'significant' it is however.

Heh - yes, I guess that remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, if you keep digging, a metre or so down, you may find the missing knob! /:)

Yea it somewhat reminded me of the akia multitrack units that recorded on to VHS back in the 80's.

Could be way off track though, but it does look funky.
:D

i'm am pretty sure your right myles
but i would like to add
i think it might possibly be junk as well ...

nah.... certainly junk :)

but i would lay bets on it being an earlier soundcraft topaz
or a knock off of one

i have bought neves in worse looking condition
a bit of spit and polish and it will look ok
take the back off it and see what brand is written on the circuit board or what sticker is inside
and then stick it up on ebay and call it "classic" .....

My search still continues, all the suggestion have elements that seem right but none of them quite fit the bill. I pulled the (plastic) back of it and have started running numbers off the boards through google as well as looking at a LOT of pics of old desks. I have feeling the end result will be a bit of a disappointment but at this point the chase is still exciting :)

Looks like an early 90's desk. Looks a bit like a H & H mixer.

I too have to admit I was inordinately interested in finding out what it was. I need to get out more.

Hi there,

I sold one of them (maybe that one !) at Brashs Melb in 1985.
(Hard to forget a mixer that had 10 channels!!)

Cheers

Hard to say until you give it a thorough clean and then some testing.

If it cleans up and actually works (and sounds okay) that opens up a world of possibilities for the next step.

Otherwise, maybe frame it. ;)

save your self the effort jump straight to framing it :)
