Anyone know where to get these type of things in oz?

Just check the connections are all good. I reckon cheap cables are fine as long as they don't have a hard life..

Factory Sound is always a good stop in Melbourne for me, they got the premade stuff but can make you up custom cables for just about anything if you need it.

Depending on Budget and number needed and what situation.
I've always made my own for all projects,home and work, usually using Belden cable, neutrick XLRs, and High quality D25 with cast back shells, then heatshrinking and labeling. It takes a while and is fiddly but the result is worth it and you'll know it won't be the cable letting you down.
I had the joy of being a "cable bitch" for a month last year when we built the new 3AW studios in Melbourne and terminated approx 300 D-25/D-15/D-37 to about 2KM of Belden cable. My fingerprints have almost fully returned now

follow up - couldn't find mogami ones in oz, got something else instead. Just didn't want to be using hosa ones no more.

I picked up some Mogami 8way snake from Audio Oz that was 2nd hand from a studio de-commision and made my own with Neutriks and metal shell DB25. For the time it takes the satisfaction knowing that it isn't a $%^# is well worth it. DB25 aren't that scary. My .002cUS

I agree with Barney that BD25s aren't that scary.

Unless you've got a few hundred of them to do. Now that's scary!

That aside, FWIW, I've found the Planet Waves DB25 XLR breakouts to be good (well made, durable). And we've also had some made on occasion by Redco in the US, and they've been fine also.

not scared of the db25, just didn't have the time to dive into something i havent done before.

will definitely be going down the road of making my own after the next project is wrapped up.

Yeh my sympathies to you Alastair .. I mangled my hands up pretty well when I re-built the MCR at Austereo Sydney. I have 2 scars on one of my fingers from the sharp edge of a Krone block.

Well - I'm going through the same dilemma.
I am changing 2 patchbays over to Dsub - and need 24 hi quality DB25-XLRS.
The best quality would be 110 ohm digital cable.
After stupid amounts of research - the best value and quality is the Avid digisnakes (110 ohm) in the US.
My dilemma :
$170 each in AU = $4500 AU inc GST
$85 each in the US = $ 1870 AU with the dollar.
So I'm going to have a quick holiday in the US, stay with some mates for nic's - buy some cables, mail them back in batches under $1k (no GST) - and maybe stop off on a nice island on the way home.

Its always good to have a plan, and a plan B, if possible!

i looked at the avid ones. you really think they are the best out there? because of the 110 ohm spec?

The 110 ohm spec is the way to go for the best audio quality.

Agreed. Not only best for analog audio quality, but more versatile (ie you can mix and match between analog and digital connections, using all the same type of cable).

FWIW, the Planet Waves stuff I mentioned earlier is also 110Ω - one of the things it has going for it.

the digi/avid stuff seems a really good price if its up there quality wise. i saw $95 us for a 12 foot cable on sweetwater. thats cheaper than the hosa shite here!
