You guys might think it's dumb but I guarantee there will be a bunch of advertising/indie film/doco makers that will eat this up.
From a sound design point of view it's not without some merit.

I dunno.
I always thought the Astronaut Beep thing that came with the standard Tools bundle for a long time was pretty dumb. At least this one passes audio!

I took a look & thought it was strange too... and then I bought a couple of their other plugins. Any publicity is good publicity, right?

It strikes me as oddly specific and narrow in its focus. Antares do a mic modeller plugin, really just an IR Processor, that comes with a bunch of "this mic -> that mic" IRs. Never looked for such things but I'm sure people have done IRs for free that could be loaded in any IR plugin.

Don't need a plug-in for that, I do a good enough job already!

I've used it though. It had one use and it did that well... If only everything had a use that it did well.

i somehow doubt that the novelty of a plugin like this will fit the budget of anyone in the "indy" or "doco" fields.
and if someone in hollywood were to use it...id sure as hell hope they had the skill of doing it without some lame arsed plugin!

I totally beg to differ Jamil.
This is exactly the reason Waves release this kind of stuff... so aspiring film makers/sound designers can feel like the're partaking in the real thing. I know plenty of producers that loved The King's Speech movie and would wet their pants if you told them they could have the same sonics as one of the mics used in the film. Doco makers too, especially if they're doing a recreation of something from that era. If they're looking for "authenticity" quickly then this fits the bill. Plenty of that kind of sound design would benefit from a product like this too. I think you underestimate the indy film industry. And by "indy" I'm not talking about 'Lost Tribe of Lesbian Vampires' type indie, I'm talking about real films with proper backing, albeit smaller budget. Even 'hollywood' budgets are tight for most films these days.

I don't really see how this plugin is any different than the neve/api/ssl/fairchild/urei/pultec plugin emulation band wagon...
...except that you will probably never get your hands on those microphones to do a comparison.

The May 2011 issue of Sound on Sound has an article about the production of The King's Speech with images of the microphones they used and how they used them, which may interest some people.

Cosmonaut Voice is awesome, when you want that sound. Not the beep/squelch, of course, but you can turn that off via automation. For a quick and convincing distortion/filter effect, it's great!
I don't understand the "passes audio" comment though.

My memory is that when the beep was on, no audio passed through it. But since I hated the thing, I'm not disposed to devote much time to determining whether or not my memory is faulty.
