Hey all,

I have just found out that my Home and Contents insurance will no longer cover any of my studio gear/instruments as they are considered "Business Tools" - first time I have ever been told I have made too much money as a musician - LOL.

Can anybody here recommend a good insurer?

I just need to insure about $30k's worth only against Fire/Flood/Theft within the studio - It doesn't travel.

You could try Marsh insurance. www.marsh.com.au/musicians.htm, they generaly had been great for people in music because they cover the stuff in your car. Even though this is irrelevant to you, their prices always seem to be pretty fair (for an insurance company...)

Not recommending them as I have no experience with them, but others have sugested Aeon Insurance to me.

i used "action insurance brokers" to insure my studio gear for about $27,000...

I use Vero and I am VERY happy with them. I'll post again tonight with the name of the broker who got my deal, but I'm insured for around $60k of instruments and gear in my home and contents, and including travelling items, it came in very reasonably priced.

To illustrate how good they are, my wife recently opened my ageing Powerbook a bit too quickly and accidentally snapped one of the hinges cracking the caseing around the screen. We got a quote to repair it, sent that to Vero, and within two days had the cheque to repair it, or buy a replacement model.... needless to say, with the difference in repair and replacement costs only being $300, I picked myself up a lovely brand spanker Mac Book Pro.

Like I said, I'll post the name of my broker who got the deal after tonights gig.

I can also recomend Ian Stack at Action Insurance.

While Ive never had to claim (thats the real test), they have been fast to respond to questions and schedule updates. and have always beaten other quotes.
