They are a very nice, natural sounding mic. Compared to the many modern pencil's these are not bright sounding, something that is immediately obvious if you have been using, say a Rode NT5 or a Mann and you put a calrec up. Here is some info from Saturn Sound who used to make a valve replacement body for these mics, don't know if they still do.

Bewdy Chris!
I've been onto the saturn sound site which is pretty informative. I've heard that people favour them on snare, HH, OH, double bass and horns.
I have an option on a nice looking pair and wondered what peoples personal experiences were. Natural sounding is a great start. I have a few pencil condensers like Akg 451's and KM84's but these could be a good addition because there not as bright.

I have a couple, and are usually one of my first choices for acoustic guitar - warm, detailed and full.
Verifying what Chris said: not as bright as a modern mic (be grateful for that), and they .would be a great devil's advocate to your bright-in-the-right-way KM84's.

On the subject, I'll put in a plug: I'm desperately in need of an omni capsule for one of mine, have contacted the usual sources but no luck. If anyone has one casually lying about, I'll snap it up.

That's great John. Thank you.
Re: omni cap - the Hebden website is selling omni caps that should fit perfectly. I'm thinking i'll get a set if I get these mics (which looks very likely).

Cheers
Ben
